Singer Miley Cyrus tweeted this earlier today and, based on the responses to that message, her fans are going apeshit:

Because I'm a pedant, I made one using Krauss' exact words.

Nevertheless, that's a very cool quote/paraphrase. So maybe she is a sensible person after all.

(2,261 posts)I posted this quote several months ago here on DU somewhere, probably in Science threads, I can't remember.
This speaks to the actual nature of our planet, and how it got here, and what it has produced. There's nothing in that quote that talks about being gay, or whatever, just that there is nothing wrong with who we are, all parts of us coming from distant stardust.

(27,677 posts)But it's pretty widespread. I googled "lawrence krauss" + "the amazing thing is that every atom in your body came from a star that exploded" and it returned 4,380 results. I know that I've also posted that quote as well as the video here on DU. The Youtube version has over a million views and 33,000 comments so it's obvious that it struck a chord and the theists have interpreted it as a shot across the bow. On one of the recent Atheist Experience shows (#750 I think) Matt took a call from a theist who challenged it by defining nothing as something, therefore making the first premise of his cosmological argument a true statement. Sort of a No True Scotsman fallacy applied to nothing.

Rumors of her atheism may be premature. Wikipedia says she wore a purity ring when she was younger.
Which for some reason, reminds me of a quote from Miley's godmother, Dolly Parton: "If I ever had a cherry, it got shoved so far back I could use it for a tail-light."
On the plus side: her paternal grandfather was a Democratic politician for most of his life in Kentucky, after being a steelworker and union officer.

I would think the tweeted picture means she's not a biblical literalist, and thinks that the astrophysics behind the creation of heavier elements is cool. She could take "forget Jesus" to mean "this isn't about Jesus"; and if she's not a fundamentalist, she won't throw out the science for the sake of purity of thought about every possible interpretation of what Krauss said.
