But yet was still a horrible racist who believed in the superiority of the "white race."

Then imagine nonstop coverage on the media and fawning comments on DU about how wonderful it is to have him as an ally, how much better he is than other past KKK leaders who didn't talk about poverty and the environment, and those same DUers berating those who speak up and note that HE'S STILL A FUCKING RACIST.

Fuck the homophobic, misogynistic pope.

I *assume* there's other news going on inthe world today -- wouldn't know it through local news. "At 1:18pm today we have word that Pope Francis..yes, yes..we are getting word that he passed gas. We have reporters live in Washington...."

2 blocks from my house is a church with the bones of an American Saint. They are expecting 1 million pilgrims between today and Sunday to pass by.

They started towing vehicles of people who lived in "the box" (the prohibited zone) last Sunday. So those poor saps get to spend a week without their cars. Main streets shutting down as of 6pm tonight and more tomorrow.

We have stocked up --lots of liquor, food, catfood for the kitties. I have a parking spot outside my house. Live in a part of the n'hood with ample parking---well, before today. I'm glad I got a spot - my husband took the train to work (he works right behind the Parkway where the pope is going to be, can't get to work by car).

They're using the Ben Franklin bridge for foot traffic only on Sat/Sun for people whose tour busses are parking in Camden for the pope & mass. They're saying "expect a 3-4 hour walk from Camden to the Parkway"---yeah, EACH WAY. Jesus. The people outside the St John Neumann church that I saw today had an average age of 249, so I'm not sure how these old folks are gonna manage a 3-4 hour walk *each way*, plus standing during the whole thing.

I'm staying put. Got liquor, got food, got studying to do for school.

I'll be glad when this clusterfuck is done. Oh! No trash pickup this week---nothing like keeping 2 weeks of trash in a 2bd apartment. Mmmm...what's that smell? Oh, it's just rotten food.

bad enough that it's saturating the tellavision, but to have to put up with that kind of bullshit in person, yikes!

I'd rather have Trump all over the TV. I think. Well.....

Isn't the US around 25-30% Catholic? That's maybe 90 million out of 300 million. And of those, probably only 10% are "practicing" Catholics. Maybe 10 million? And they're all lining the streets with hands and arms outstretched.

But the vast majority of the country doesn't give a fuck about the ill Papa.

I love Rude.

This was put out yesterday, before Boner announced his resignation

The Rude Pundit could not find it in himself to give a single rat's ass about Pope Francis's visit to the United States, other than a desire to find some "Viva El Papa" merchandise because it makes him giggle. Atheism is funny that way. Sure, sure, he understands the importance of the Pope doing papal things, he understands that Francis is far less of an asshole than some other popes who shall remain nameless (lookin' at you, Benny), and he gets that a lot of people do, in fact, give the asses of many rats about the Pope.

One of those people is devout Catholic alcoholic and Speaker of the House John Boehner. Here he is, crying like someone told him he's pregnant, just because he's close enough to sniff the Pope's skullcap:

snip

Every conservative Catholic Republican listening to the Pope today reminds the Rude Pundit of Chris Christie proclaiming his love for the music of Bruce Springsteen. Yeah, you can rock out to the guitars and sax, but if you don't listen to the words, your love and your tears are worthless.
