So I made my bi-monthly foray into Facebook.

Just to see what my "friends" think of the death of Scalia.

There was everything from boring news posts to one person lamenting the possibility of that Obummer (yes, that's what he was called) nominating another liberal by saying, "It's in God's hands now. All we can do is pray."

Two different "friends" posted this scary quote by Scalia:

God assumed from the beginning that the wise of the world would view Christians as fools...and He has not been disappointed....If I have brought any message today, it is this: Have the courage to have your wisdom regarded as stupidity. Be fools for Christ. And have the courage to suffer the contempt of the sophisticated world.

It seems to sum up things quite nicely. Courageous fools.

Yes, be uneducated and just stubborn in the face of new knowledge and facts.

Why would this be considered an asset???????? (unless you really ARE stupid)

And some of the most notorious have simply been scanned and uploaded to the Internet.

Just a couple years ago, I got one of those from my mother's Baptist friend: "ATHEIST MADALYN MURRAY O'HARE SUES TO STOP ALL RELIGIOUS BROADCASTING!1!" FORWARD THIS OR GO STRAIGHT TO HELL!1! (They ALWAYS misspell O'Hair's name in these things. Which shows me the deep quality of their research...)

I couldn't resist, and actually replied to that POS. Pointing out that O'Hair has been dead since 1995 and isn't doing much of anything these days.

But that particular one goes all the way back to the early 1960's. And the FCC is STILL getting outraged letters about it. At one point they were getting several hundred a week. There is a tiny grain of truth in it - long ago there was a lawsuit over religious programming hogging the TV/radio channels. But it wasn't about atheism and O'Hair had absolutely nothing to do with the case.

Another old fave was a long-winded chain letter about General Somebody in the Philippines who didn't forward the chain letter and died horribly. Or something. But, along with prayer, that one asked you to enclose $10. Which is illegal, whether the money is requested thru snail-mail or the Internet.
