Never before has the crucifixion been so cute and cuddly! And it's in 3D.

Follow the adventures of a bold lamb and his stable friends as they try to avoid the sacrificial altar the week preceding the crucifixion of Christ. It is a heart-warming account of the Easter story as seen through the eyes of a lovable pig , a faint-hearted horse, a pedantic rat, a rambling rooster, a motherly cow and a downtrodden donkey. This magnificent period piece with its epic sets is a roller coaster ride of emotions. Enveloped in humor, this quest follows the animals from the stable in Bethlehem to the great temple in Jerusalem and onto the hillside of Calvary as these unlikely heroes try to save their friend.

Official movie site: http://www.lionofjudahthemovie.com

It's being distributed by AnimatedKidz: http://www.animatedkidz.com

Which appears to be a subsidiary of Animated Family Films: http://www.animatedfamilyfilms.com

Where we learn that the CEO W. Johan Sturm was involved with this film:

Johan not only holds the storylines of his films to higher standards, but he also believes that the quality of his pictures should be held to the highest quality and animation as the most current successful films. Johan prides himself on staying current on the latest trends and technologies of the film industry. His most recent film “The Lion of Judah” will release in theaters in digital 3D, and he plans on future projects to follow in digital 3D releases. Johan also has stayed up to date on DVD formats, making some of his more recent films on BlueRay DVD, and he is currently monitoring the trend of 3D televisions in homes and researching when he will enter the 3D DVD trend with his movies.

The film had elements that reminded me of another company who did animations under another name. They were surface christians, but truly legbreakers at heart. As good as the quality of animation is, I doubt he can get this released unless he owns a theater. Fundies will snap it up on DVD and probably use it for home schooling and call it history.

On one of their websites they're also pitching it directly to churches to show to their congregation.

I really am surprised at the quality -- both the animation, and voice-overs. They obviously put a lot of work into this, which makes it stand out from a lot of direct-to-DVD Christian-oriented releases. If I was bored I'd be inclined to watch it just to see how the story fares as well. I wonder if the surprise ending is that the lamb really does get sacrificed, perhaps to save a child or another farm animal, just as Christ is about to get crucified. Sort of a sacred Charlotte's Web.

I think you're probably right on target. I doubt I'd ever be bored enough to get through the whole thing.

Well, at least the pig isn't going to be sacrificed. Killed on the spot as unclean, perhaps, but not sacrificed ...
