I think the hosts here in A&A are doing just fine. While I don't necessarily agree with every decision they make, I see no reason to call for their removal by demanding they resign or creating an expiration of their term of service.

A little disagreement won't kill us. The hosts are doing fine.

"Nobody who posts anything anywhere on this site has any reasonable expectation of privacy. Not only is this the internet, but DU3 has been designed with transparency in mind. I think the idea of a safe haven is not secrecy, but security from confrontation. Blocking others from quoting what a fellow member has written seems punitive and petty to me."
Opinions are solicited on the above comments because i might be *gasp* wrong. The hosts, or anybody else, are free to comment on this OP any way they please and it will remain unlocked and unrecced by me. That's just how I roll.

and am appreciative that you won't delete your original OP.
As I expressed in the thread that was deleted by the OP there is no need to go without hosts/moderators in the A&A forum. They are doing a great job and their rational for their decisions are well thought out and expressed to the group in a cogent manner.
It was too bad that someone deleted their original post because no one agreed with him. I felt like it was a hit and run when the OP remarked on one of my posts then deleted his OP and I was not given the chance to respond. It appears that the poster has learned well from some of the theists in the religion forum.
On edit: thanks for not being so crass as to recommend your own thread!

(5,649 posts)While I don't necessarily agree with every decision they make, either, none of them are doing it to be petty or vindictive. So... I can at least be civil in my disagreement (and I may learn something along the way).
By the way...I don't think that moonshine and straight razors will go far... after a couple drinks of the moonshine, we will forget who we were going to use the razor on and attempt to shave a Pine tree. So, it's just really bad for the environment, while solving nothing

(28,151 posts)Indeed, a little moonshine very well could change your use of the razor!

(11,181 posts)I'm sure I'll get the hang of the mechanics sooner or later and if I embarrassed myself by reccing my own post, so be it. I wouldn't be participating in DU if I couldn't take some ridicule. So, everyone have a good laugh and let's move on. That's how I roll.

(17,671 posts)although claiming ignorance is a bit mendacious, but whatever.
Replying to others, especially by posting a partial quote, and then locking the thread is a galactly juvenile and chickenshit maneuver. You should know better. Feel free to reattach your ass now that I've handed it back to you.

(11,181 posts)and therefore not a good idea. I have no desire to stir up more shit here. It was only an idea, maybe not such a good one. I obviously interpreted others remarks incorrectly. Let's see how it all works out now that things have calmed down somewhat. You should know me better by now to impugn my motives, but I thank you for returning my ass. It comes in handy at times.

(6,452 posts)They happen every 3 months, and the next cycle is the middle of June (and as always, ya'll are welcome to throw the bums out! . Sometime in a week or two, we'll pin a thread to the top of the group that gives information about the hosting process.
Seriously though, and I think I can speak for all three A&A hosts, we appreciate the support we've received over the last couple of days. It was trying, but we stuck to our guns because we thought it was the right decision for the group.

(14,860 posts)The vote was to make us hosts until we retire, which in darkstar's case was pretty soon after the vote.
My thoughts are that we should only do elections when one of us retires or if enough members (maybe five or more?) ask for one.
The way Starboard Tack called for a change in hosts works fine--anyone can post a thread calling for elections/removal of specific hosts and if there's enough support, we put it to a vote.

(28,151 posts)AA, as I have mentioned to you privately, is beyond safe haven for me. You guys have no idea what a large role you've long played in me keeping what lucidity I have!
Real life and bob knows the rest of DU can be annoying! It doesn't matter the reason or topic, there's always stuff that makes me crazy. It never fails though, I come into this group and read and I always learn something and always laugh. Brilliant, witty and you guys damn well understand what life is like out here as a godless heathen.
I love this group. It's my safe zone. Of course I have noticed a recent uptick in a certain brand of whine but I know that vintage won;'t last long. Another reason I love this group.
I know, lots of emotion based thinking I apply to a place I love for rational thought. I hope like me you are all fans of irony.
