(146,329 posts)If, for example, it's a prayer for something like a calm mind and freedom from anxiety, it can have a beneficial effect on the person praying. Prayers for patience, acceptance and other such things can also work, if the person praying believes they will. It's sort of a spiritual placebo, with similar effects.
Prayers about stuff external to the person praying, though: Ineffective in the extreme and a waste of time. Much like homeopathic medicine on real disease.
