Weather Watchers
Related: About this forumWe had 89 mph wind gusts in Boulder county, CO today!
It went on for about five hours. Power out in some areas, trees down, fences flattened, flying trampolines! I've lived her since 1981 and have never seen it this bad. Calm now.Whew!

(16,379 posts)At one point, while I was at work, we had a "code red" (fire alarm). We had a waiting room full of patients, many of whom were very sick and in wheelchairs. I got them to the door of the exit but it was honestly too cold and windy to take them outside; the wind would have knocked some of them over. It was even cold by the door. I wrapped everyone up in blankets and waited for the "all clear" which seemed like it took forever because all the fire departments close to the clinic were busy with other wind-related accidents. Found out the alarm was caused by dust.

(9,666 posts)My wife and I were born and raised in Denver, but haven't lived there for 40 some years. I remember those warm chinooks that would come howling through -- always hitting the front range communities like yours much harder. What you got slammed by doesn't sound like any chinook though. (dtrumps Chinese hoax, my ass).
We'll be checking in with our loved ones still there and hope you and yours, LK, are okay.

When I lived there I'd lie away at night listening to the wind, and then the next morning would learn what the gusts were. I got very good at estimating wind speeds.
One time a good gust of wind knocked my three year old off his feet as we were exiting the grocery store.
