Jan. 24, 2014, 5:45 AM EST: It is 3 Degrees in Pittsburgh and 44 Degrees in Juneau.

This month of January 2014 has seen a fair number of days in which the temperatures in the major Alaska cities are warmer than those in the northern plains and northeast region of the Lower 48 States.

was higher than the average temperature for all of the Lower 48 states. We've had an incredibly mild January here in Anchorage with the temps being in the upper 30s and 40s most of the month, about 20-25 degrees above normal.

It frustrates me when my provincial "friends" in Texas scoff at the idea of global warming just because it's cold in Houston, while we have villages crumbling into the Bering Sea.
