The man behind the hurricane discussion I recently linked, Forecaster Avila

I recently posted a link to a discussion of the forecast for Tropical Storm Arlene. The discussion started out with "I have to add one more surprise to my long hurricane forecasting career," and was signed "Forecaster Avila." I have seen that name hundreds of times and knew absolutely nothing about Forecaster Avila.

I found this brief bio at the NHC's website.

"Lixion Avila, Ph.D.
Senior Hurricane Specialist
National Hurricane Center"

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/staff/Avila_bio_2017.pdf

"Dr. Avila began his professional career in 1973 as a meteorologist with the Cuban Weather Service, providing hurricane forecast and warning information."

So when he says long career, he's talking about 40 plus years. Kudos to you Mr. Avila
