I love seeing these post-war pictures of Japan.

One comment: The 4th picture from the top is actually from the city of Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture, and dates from 1980. It is currently a youth center, but the name suggests it might have started out as an orphanage (児童ホーム-- "home for children&quot . Here is what it looks like today:

(船橋市 ) was in the photo, and I looked up that particular facility-- "Wakamatsu Jido Home" and found that picture which was dated as "Showa 55" (昭和55), the year the facility was opened. Add 1925 to that to get the Western year-- 1980.

That dates from 1958 or earlier. It also looks like the National Diet (Parliament) Building is visible just to the left of the tower in the background.

Maybe not the chindon-ya in the first picture (costumed band marching in front of a newly opened store)--I haven't seen one of those since the 1970s. But #7, #8, and #10 are pretty close to what you can see even now in the less prestigious neighborhoods.

I'm wondering if the underpass shown in #3 is at Shimbashi.
