A corrupt official gets caught in Thailand - you can't make this stuff up.
This is a story that seems like it is right out of Somerset Maugham;
A senior bureacrat is having a huge wedding for his daughter.
Naturally everyone in the household goes to the wedding. With no one at home a team of professional burglers enter the home and find only a simple rural maid there. They ransack the house and leave. The maid runs out identifies the car and calls the police.
The police come and pursue the criminals and catch some of them and recover millions of baht cash.
The bureacrat returns home and realizes that he is in trouble and goes to the police station and reports the theft of B 5.
The only problem is that they have now already recovered B 18 million in cash. The captured thieves say that they saw B 700 million.
Mr. Supoj has been investigaged and found to be 'unusually rich'. (Senior officials have to regularly declare their assets and if they are found to have more than a good weekend in Macao could generate are considered guilty of corruption.)
With all things in Thailand it is impossible to know what really happened.
It is possible that this is a simple burglary.
Or it is possible that some major deals went south and some very rich people have decided to burn Supoj, by willing to give up some extra money in order to get him out of the way and replaced.
