I just watched "Jiro Dreams of Sushi"

which is a movie about the only sushi restaurant (in the Ginza) in the world to be awarded three Michelin stars. The sushi looks delicious but the meal itself sounds like it'd be pretty grim, with the chef glowering at you the whole time. Just curious if anyone here has actually eaten at his restaurant in Tokyo. It's said to be a set menu of 20 pieces of sushi, and it costs over $300 per person.

The film itself was fascinating, about an 85-year-old man who devoted his life to the perfection of sushi-making.

Tokyo has literally thousands of restaurants, more than I've seen any place in the world, including New York and London.

My secret for getting great sushi and sashimi in Tokyo is to go to the basement gourmet food basement that every department store has. In the seafood section, there is likely to be a tiny sushi bar off in a corner. That's where I get a great assortment of sashimi for 20 dollars or so.

But I salivate just thinking about a trip there. I love sushi. Too bad the mercury in tuna means we have to limit our intake!
