Bill O’Reilly promises to ‘flee’ to Ireland if Bernie Sanders becomes president

DAVID EDWARDS
14 JAN 2016 AT 21:18

Fox News host Bill O’Reilly has vowed to move out of the United States if Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders wins his White House bid.

On Thursday’s edition of The O’Reilly Factor, the Fox News host argued that Sanders wanted to “dismantle” Medicare and the Affordable Care Act “in the sense that it would be Berniecare and it would be much more than it is now.”

“And you know, look, I’m fleeing,” he warned. “If Bernie Sanders gets elected president, I’m fleeing. I’m going to Ireland. And they already know it.”

O’Reilly added: “I shouldn’t say it publicly because that will get Sanders more votes. But I’m not going to pay 90 percent of my income to that guy. I’m sorry. I’m not doing it.”

O'Reilly is also Irish only on his father's side. Mother was English or Scotch, I believe.

The program also featured Soledad O'Brian. Half Irish and... at least part, maybe half..... AA.

Edit on Soledad: It's coming back to me now. Australian-Irish-American. With an AA ancestor contributing, presumably towards the later part ( i.e. in the USA) of those migrations.

While it's easy to find references via google to Bill's promises to leave under certain conditions, e.g. taxed too much, a quick google search for "Al Franken says he'll leave the country" doesn't elicit any examples of Senator Franken ever stating that he'd leave.

Now if Mr. Bill actually followed through I would have contending responses, celebration for his absence and condolences for the country where some of my forebears came from. I'm not terribly worried for Ireland though, Bill is just making sh*t up again.

He's forgotten my favorite definition of patriotism:

“Patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it.”

Bill will get great health care in Ireland.

"Irish Health System

Modern, Efficient, Free

Ireland's health care system is modern and reasonably efficient. It is also free, if you don't count the taxes that pay for it all. Everyone resident in Ireland is entitled to free public health coverage. The level of free coverage depends on your economic health - the poorer it is, the higher your level of coverage. There are two categories of public health coverage. Once you are resident in Ireland, you are automatically entitled to one or the other."

However, I wonder whether they would take him. Does anyone know whether one of his parents was an Irish citizen? If either one was and Bill was born here, then he would be considered an Irish citizen born abroad. Ireland would have to accept him. If neither of his parents was an Irish citizen, then he would need an immigrant visa and Ireland could deny him one. It is not as easy to get an immigrant visa for Ireland, as he may think.

Fri Jan 15, 2016, 02:00 PM

You can claim ancestry but your offspring won’t be eligible if you hadn’t registered before 1986.

Citizenship through descent from Irish grandparents
If one of your grandparents is an Irish citizen who was born in Ireland, but none of your parents was born in Ireland, you may become an Irish citizen. You will need to have your birth registered in the Foreign Births Register.

If you are entitled to register, your Irish citizenship is effective from the date of registration. The Irish citizenship of successive generations may be maintained in this way by each generation ensuring their registration in the Foreign Births Register before the birth of the next generation.

Since 1 July 1986, a person registered in the Foreign Births Entry Book after 1986 is deemed to be an Irish citizen only from the date of his/her entry in the Register and not from the date of birth. This means that children born to that person before his/her date of entry in the Register are not entitled to citizenship.

People registered before July 1986 are deemed Irish citizens either from the date the original Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act came into force, that is, 17 July 1956, or their date of birth, whichever is later. Only children born after 17 July 1956 can claim citizenship in such cases.

Ireland already HAS a lot of the programs Bernie wants to roll out here (universal healthcare, free university tuition). The tax burden on anyone earning over €100,000 is about (or is proposed, can’t remember if it passed) 60% AND he will still have to pay taxes to the US.

PLUS Ireland is notoriously liberal and don’t fall at the feet of the rich in fact they have a long tradition of treating them with suspicion if not flat out derision.

Apart from the fact that the Irish are REALLY nice people and I wouldn’t wish this piece of shit on those poor people.

Lastly, its not easy to get loofah sponges there, Bill, so I’d stay away.

proverbial ass --------------------and by the way Bill' O they have this is health care coverage:

http://ireland.angloinfo.com/healthcare/health-system/

And this is there tax rates:

Taxation in the Republic of Ireland
In Ireland there is an income tax, a VAT, and various other taxes. Employees pay pay-as-you-earn (PAYE) taxes based on their income, less certain allowances. The taxation of earnings is progressive, with little or no income tax paid by low earners and a high rate applied to middle to top earners.

So what are your loyaliies there Bill'O

And I will add this salt wound of hypocrisy while door hits you in the ass:

and it seems like he isn’t eligible for citizenship by descent unless one of his progenitors had already registered in the Foreign Births Register. Since the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree, its unlikely that anyone with a genetic link to this troglodyte would have had such foresight.

Seems like Ireland is safe, as my Irish nan would say “thanks be to God”.

But an good friend of ours is from Ireland and flies back once a year. She has said the taxes are incredible and getting worse. Healthcare is of course provided as it is not here.

I am not sure Ireland would be excited by this addition to their ranks. Nor he with the taxes and all that socialized medicine stuff.

What a clown.

You pay it to the United States of America you unpatriotic asshole.

Besides, say the 90% starts at $2,000,000.00 and you make 2,000,001.00,...the 90% is only on that $1.00.

Added for your dancing pleasure:

Sewell Avery was the CEO of Montgomery Ward who hated FDR's New Deal. He considered FDR to be a communist. Avery supported fascism for America. Pictured above are US Army troops arresting him. He refused to get out of his expensive office chair so he was carried into custody for refusing to pay his income taxes which he claimed were unconstitutional. We use to know as a people the rich are not supposed to run the country. That's against everything this country is about.

Looking forward to playing "Happy Days Are Here Again".

Ireland already has single payer health care.

They also don't spend but a minuscule amount on their military.

How could you stand living in a country like that?
