However, as negotiations were in their final stage, Sanders successfully pushed for the inclusion of $11 billion in funding for community health centers, especially in rural areas. The insertion of this funding helped bring together both Democratic lawmakers on the left and Democrats representing more conservative, rural areas.
"There was no one who played a more important role than Sen. Sanders" in securing that funding, Daniel Hawkins, vice president of the National Association of Community Health Centers, told the Intercept last year. (Sanders camp forwarded PolitiFact the Intercept article as evidence for his statement.)
So theres a good case to be made that Sanders made an important contribution to the final legislation.

Sanders statement contains an element of truth but ignores critical facts that would give a different impression. That meets our definition of Mostly False.

Without Bernie's inclusion of 11 billion dollars in funding community health centers bringing together those Democratic Lawmakers on the left and Democrats representing conservative rural areas, the ACA wouldn't have passed, it had no Republican support.
Thus, my finding is that POLITIFACT is mostly full of shit.

(30,481 posts)Bit more than a little exaggeration. As they said, Sanders was "mostly false" on this one.
If you want me to quote directly from the article:
"Mostly False"

(30,481 posts)in this instance. I agree with them.

(58,403 posts)Good luck with that kind of logic.

(30,481 posts)You are arguing for the same case they made. It's the reason it didn't get a "completely false" from them. They were pretty kind in giving it a "mostly false." Seems it was very close to a "false." Ticking in the opposite direction from where you are going. I do like that they have been kind to Sanders here. Not always the case with democrats.
Uncle Joe
(58,403 posts)own article states this brought together "Democratic Lawmakers on the left and those representing the more conservative rural areas" if they hadn't come together, the ACA may never have passed.

The inclusion is helping to write, there is no logical basis to deny this.

(11,945 posts)If countering them helps to get facts out there, fine -- but otherwise it's useless. Some want to argue intelligently, some want only to score political points.

Uncle Joe
(58,403 posts)that is so cute and true. I used to practice something called Centering Prayer aka Contemplative Prayer but these days only do it in brief moments, kind of like checking in. It is always a place of peace. Maybe I'll take it up again, because the bad vibes/bad faith/bad intentions on DU can be nauseating. I have a cousin who is a Buddhist and has meditated every morning for decades. I think I'll send him the photo; he'll like it.
Thanks, Uncle Joe!

(58,403 posts)I meditated or used self-hypnosis that I felt a sense of euphoria with the sensation of floating through the ceiling, it can be a most powerful and awakening experience.
I used to have some CDs that would aid in this endeavor but they were lost in a move, I need to get some more, but I will never forget that feeling and even though this was a while back, it's comforting because I can always go back and revisit, not to mention it never totally goes away.
Peace to you, senz.

(11,945 posts)I've had the same type of experiences, mostly when younger, but found them unnerving and usually put on the brakes to stay grounded. But I think I could handle it now. I did a lot of investigating into eastern religions, which eventually led to quite a bit of guided meditation, and was very amenable to it, especially visual meditations. It comes naturally. In fact, I often have a sublayer of really nice imagery running through the back of my mind -- things like palm trees waving in the breeze, light sparkling off water or weaving through leaves, water gurgling along a stream, walking paths through woods, vistas of what look like rolling English countrysides from a hilltop, the sides of redrock canyons, vast expanses ocean from a cliff -- and hundreds of others. I'm not sure if it's "normal" and have never inquired, but it is enjoyable. It often happens as I drift off to sleep. But this, of course, is not the still mind of meditation. I can only do that via Centering Prayer, I think because it is deeply relational; there is something to hold on to.
Huh. Wandered far from politics there. Let's visualize Bernie winning and America coming together for the good of all. Let's visualize something good coming our way, something lifting. Couldn't hurt, could it?

(11,945 posts)Bernie's contribution also made the ACA a life-saver for poor people living in rural areas.
No one can deny that. Bernie didn't say he wrote the ACA; he said he helped write it. He did, and he was a big help.
POLITIFACT should have said TRUE or at the very least, PARTLY TRUE.
