Related: About this forumCheryl Describes Meeting Mitt Romney
Published on Sep 22, 2012
Cheryl, a teacher from Colorado, was asked to participate in a roundtable with Mitt Romney. In this video she shares her impression after talking with him and how her views on education are different than Mitt Romney's.
As Cheryl shares:
"He said, "...I understand there's a teacher here today, which one of you is the teacher?" So I raised my hand thinking that's a good thing; he's interested in education. But it wasn't a good thing."

I have a friend that commuted to Denver from Craig once a week. Six hours each way. For specialized therapy.

(322 posts)Cutting this woman off and saying "I didn't ask you a question". . .tripping family members at the Rom-lympics. . .the Libya fiasco. . .I really have to wonder about someone who doesn't understand on a TRANSACTIONAL level, even, that an empathic response to other people will help your chances with other people, whether you are just a person in the working world or are running for President.
I'm not sure whether it's a social deficiency, or perhaps the fact that Romney never had to LEARN these things to get ahead b/c he was born a toe-tap from home base.

(41,991 posts)Not that it isn't deep seated and hard to change. But part of this particular characterological issue is that you don't think it's you. You think it's everyone else.

(150 posts)character because he is so out of touch with regular people. Romney and his ideology would be a disaster for this country or should I say a repeated disaster a la George Bush. The story this teacher told about meeting him in a political campaign setting, is a very powerful and insightful testimony of the shallowness of this man.

(13,776 posts)Nobody, and especially a politician, should EVER talk to another human being like that. "I didn't ask you a question"--OMG.
And I think another point she made, about how Romney just couldn't understand small-town life, is important. I have no doubt that he looks down on people in small towns, but even more importantly, he has no motivation to care about their particular concerns, and so he won't. To him that would just be sound business thinking--why waste time on people who can't do something for you, and they simply don't have the bucks to make them worth his energy.

I don't think Romney could have handled the situation worse if he tried. He stopped just short of blasting her with seltzer and giving her a buzzer hand shake.
Is it possible they found a worse candidate than W?
