2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA Day in Clinton Iowa ... canvassing for Bernie and ending up at the town meeting...
Well, it started early for Saturday. We assembled at the Aurora, IL Denny's parking lot right off of I-88 and Il Rte 31 at 7:30 AM...
Then drove 2 hours to the downtown Clinton, IA Sanders HQ. A very small fraction of the size of theHRC campaign office just down the street, but a beehive of activity and organized chaos. We went off for 2-3 hours canvassing for caucus-goers that would support Bernie. Then down to the town meeting.
I spent an hour outside directing people to the right entrance and getting people to fill out caucus pledge cards. I spoke with many of these folks, notably a young girl who will be 18 by November, who said she and her friends were caucusing for Bernie ... and that HRC's use of Demi Lovato to "lure" in younger voters was a cheap ploy... these kids are serious about their future, and have some of the same deep concerns about our country as we all do...
I ended up being 15 ft from Bernie at that event. The crowd was packed, over 200 beyond the fire code limit, but the sheriff allowed the packed crowd to remain... well over 550 ... I finally witnessed first hand why this most unlikely of idealistic candidates may very well pull of the political upset of the century...
