Except, its mostly pointless.
You see, in the grand scheme of things, these two states have very specific and unique voting demographics that are terrible representations of the American population as a whole. Which means theyre fairly poor predictors as to what the rest of the country thinks about a candidate.

(4,377 posts)The people who think about the demographics of the states are usually the wonks like us here who are following every turn and twist in the race. The reason the first two are so important is because of the momentum and press attention they provide which can and have completely changed races in the past.
The simple truth is that most voters don't closely follow politics. They pick up bits and pieces from the news or from conversations with people they know. If the news is blasting 'Sanders beats Clinton again!' or 'Clinton holds off Sanders!' headlines for weeks, those headlines have a strong effect on voting intentions.

I'm not so sure that he's wrong when you look at the other examples he cites. But reasonable people can certainly differ.
