One hears the pitch in a different way.

(94,585 posts)I don't think he can get elected to implement them.

(4,387 posts)...Sanders message crosses political lines. D's and R's alike are struggling to afford life in this country at a certain standard of living. This gives him the best chance of being elected since his message doesn't cater to specific groups, but everyone.

(94,585 posts)...AND I care if he'll have the financial resources to sell it. His grassroots financing will have to ramp up 10 X minimum to be competitive with the Republicans.

I have principles I will never surrender.

(94,585 posts)I'd hate to think you voted for a sell-out like Obama.....

(3,764 posts)If he wins and the establishment Democrats throw their resources to him then he will have enough to be competitive. Bernie may not have big donations but he has already had millions of $30 donations. I can give $30 a couple of more times. Maybe many of us can.

(614 posts)that assumes he has won the democratic nomination.
which in turn assumes he will have their money to use for his campaign, as well.
or, at least they will use their money - our money - to elect him.
that is how that works, amirite?
and i have to ask, does this attitude you are proposing here not perpetuate the very problem that has destroyed elections more than any other single factor in history? all that money?
i have a lot of respect for clinton on numbers of dimensions, but the fact that she and her hubby were instrumental in shifting the party toward the institutionalization of monied campaigns is close to unforgivable, imho. and she perpetuates it with her speaking fees and cozy relationship with wall street, which was itself clearly why she chose to run for senate in NY!
these are the very things we need to root OUT of our politics. and we need to start NOW. time is wasting, and too much is at stake!

(94,585 posts)The National Party can give ONLY $5,000 to an individual candidate, per FEC reg. He'll have to go out at raise $1 B himself, like Obama did.
brooklynite
(94,585 posts)Because the raise, the scale is a matter of what you need to compete, NOT what you'd "like" to spend. And with today's republicans, a billion is a conservative estimate of what you'll need.
We'd all like publicly funded campaigns; right now, we don't have them.
ellennelle
(614 posts)what does it mean that your concern about sanders is that he might not have enough money to fight the GOP?
THAT is your deal-breaker???
not intending to insult you, but i do respectfully encourage you to think honestly about that fact.
this is your criterion? really?
brooklynite
(94,585 posts)If you run a campaign and lose because you were massively outspent and didn't have the resources you needed, saying "well, I stuck to my principles" is cold comfort.

I mean really, if you don't think he can get elected, you should just the Democratic message. Instead, you are a loud and consistent voice to strengthen the HRC campaign, without offering any pushback on her ideas--you seem to fully support HRC's positions and new promises, even though they are against your internal wishes? Do you even know who you are?
You should push for the issues that matter to you and try to swing the Democratic party to favor your wishes.
I am a staunch Democrat and I an not committed to a primary candidate. It's just that when reading certain posts, especially from the most vocal here, comments like the one you've made sounds disingenuous.
We should push to retain and build on core Democratic values, ones that have taken a century and a half to enact.
The Democratic nominee will probably be either HRC or SBS, so what's the loss for sticking up to your morals and foundations?

(46,179 posts)Polls consistently show him with a better chance of beating the possible R nominees than HRC.
The only reason why he wouldn't be elected is if enough Democrats like yourself don't vote for him in their primaries.

(7,143 posts)I don't get a chance to vote until March 15. My computer says it's January 24.
So maybe it's just the clock?
