(13,877 posts)Heck, he might consider going to the Caddy Shack or the Restaurant and hang out with the simple folk. Not saying he would...I don't know...just saying it would be more like him.
It took Tiger Woods to crash the racial ceiling...and not without a lot of grief.

(5,761 posts)POTUS's points sound all too familiar don't they? XD Well well well, you can't unring a bell!
Even down to Hillary saying to Obama --"You have no record on how you'd pay for it". LOL What a flash back. What's old is new again!

(99,710 posts)I just purchased "Chasing The Dream- My Lifelong Journey to the World Series" by Joe Torre at the used book store. I don't how to golf but if I did I would want to play with him. My widowed mom was pretty broke but she wanted to pay for golf and tennis lessons as she believed it would be serve me well in later life. Some times I wish I would have availed myself of her offer.
All in all, the photo doesn't bother me much.
I like this golf photo though:

(14,918 posts)violence victims was hardly ironic. It was misleading and dishonest. For any posters here who might actually want to support Joe Torre's Safe at Home Foundation instead of using it to score a cheap smear against the spouse of one of the candidates, you can learn more about it here:

(24,979 posts)It's not unusual for ruling-class privateers to get together and do reacharounds on each other at otherwise worthy charitable events. For more than a century robber barons have been recasting themselves as philanthropists. They try to buy absolution and good PR. That hardly means I am against everything they do in the name of philanthropy. I love Carnegie's libraries, but they don't absolve him. And it's not a "smear" on Joe Torre or his foundation to notice the disgusting characters lined up next to him doing the claque-cliqua thing, who otherwise pretend to be political opponents in the world of professional wrestling known as American politics. Who would it take extra in the photo to impress on you that the picture shows a dual function, and that only one of these functions is admirable? Henry Kissinger? Pol Pot?

(30,249 posts)Ahhh, what a joke this place has become. They have demonized the Clintons to such an extent that they have become as irrelevant as the RW when it comes to attacking them. Whatever valid points they may have had are lost in the tonnage of bull crap posts like this one. Therefore, as I just said to someone else, as far as I'm concerned they have become just white noise to be ignored.

(30,249 posts)Do you know why they were golfing together? It was taken at the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation Golf Classic in 2008. It was a charity tournament. The Joe Torre foundation helps kids in need. Yeah, that Bill is such a terrible guy.
So PLEASE, let Sanders use that photo in his campaign.
Here's the foundation's link.

(90,708 posts)...when they are asked to give generously to a charity. It could have been a swanky "gala" instead, but instead it's golf.
You know what Willie Sutton said when asked why he robbed banks? "Because that is where the money is."
I used to think we were all smart enough to know that charities engage the help of the super-rich because that's where the money is. So they hobnob with each other -- including Bill Clinton and Bush Sr., Bill Clinton and Trump before the campaign, and Bill Clinton and a bunch of people we might actually like if we knew them (I don't include Trump and Bush in that latter group, obviously).
Bill in particular has a bucket list of things he wants to achieve for the good of the world before his family's short life-span catches up with him -- he actually said this years ago when asked if he was going to be doing what Jimmy Carter is doing when he is 80 or 90 years old. He said he did not expect to live anywhere near that long, so he felt he had to be very busy right now. That's what his Foundation is about, in case anyone ever wants to listen to him talk about the work they do in the world, including the US.

(14,918 posts)its mission. Ordinary people are more likely to come to an event when they have a chance to meet someone famous. I live in Nashville and celebrities from the music community are always in attendance to support this sort of thing. For the Torres event, held in New York, all of the people in the picture lived locally and were sure to make the fundraiser more visible. Nothing like trashing people who came out for a good cause! I guess we are all supposed to start hating Billy Crystal and calling him a 1%-er and corporatist shill for the oligarchy any minute now. BTW, here is a clip of Billy doing standup at another fundraiser for Joe Torre's Safe at Home Foundation:

(10,476 posts)so that's ok, but it's not ok for the spouse (not the candidate) to be pictured on friendly terms with those from the other side?
The only thing we're "feeling the bern" from lately is the white heat of hypocrisy.

(7,719 posts)Where I live, it's deep red Texas. I'm usually the lone dem among the group.....and yes, I give them hell! To make a post like this is so disingenuous. To me, its nothing but a hate post. I have voted dem in every election sine 1976 (all that I was eligible to vote in).
Some of you live in a bubble yourselves. You surround yourselves with like minded folks, talk down the other side, and gloat about how right you are. You don't get to hear the other side bitch about why they hate even their own candidates, but because of their conservative convictions, they'll still vote for them. Same exact thing happens on the dem side. I hear folks hear bitch and gripe about our candidates because of one thing or another, but they'll still vote dem come the GE. Include me in that group. Then there are those who say they won't vote if their dem doesn't win the nomination. Those folks, in my opinion are ignorant.
I don't choose friends because of their political convictions. I allow them their opinions as long as they allow me mine. There are really good people on both sides. Granted, I believe the republicans are ignorant to the facts, but, I suppose they think the same about me. So, I live and let live. Don't get caught up in the political bigotry. Winning a conversation isn't a trophy to set on your ideological shelf. It'll be forgotten soon after it has left your lips. The most important thing is your vote. Do it. Without it, we can't win!
