Related: About this forumRobert Reich: I’ve Known Hillary Since She Was 19. Bernie Sanders is the Most Qualified Candidate

In a startling upset for the Clinton campaign, Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor for the Clinton administration, has come out in support of Bernie Sanders in a searing blog post that gets to the volcanic core of what this election is truly about.
*On Edit* The 2nd paragraph has changed from when it was originally posted online. what follows is paragraph 2 as of 7pm PST*
Ive known Hillary Clinton since she was 19 years old, and have nothing but respect for her. In my view, shes the most qualified candidate for president of the political system we now have, Reich said. But Bernie Sanders is the most qualified candidate to create the political system we should have, because hes leading a political movement for change.
Reich referenced a Princeton survey which, after analyzing 1,799 policy issues from 1981 to 2002, ultimately concluded that The preferences of the average American appear to have only a minuscule, near-zero, statistically insignificant impact upon public policy. Reich added that since 2002, the Citizens United and McCutcheon decisions have only opened the floodgates to big money even more.

such as you did, it is incumbent on the person making said claim, to provide evidence that it is factual.
I am not saying you made it up, but I am saying that I, someone who follows Reich fairly closely, have never seen or heard him trash the Clintons.

(2,125 posts)Reich referred to Bernis as a political activist who tells it like it is, who has lived by his convictions for fifty years, who wont take a dime of money from big corporations or Wall Street or the very rich, and who is leading a grass-roots political revolution to regain control over our democracy and economy.
I know that's right.

(4,976 posts)and i respected her past positions immensely. But that was the past. She has completely moderated center right and then marginally moved to the left since Bernie has been in the running, but not enough. I can't vote Republican Lite. I will vote Bernie in the primary.

The Congressman that surprised me most was Alan Grayson ...he came here to DU wanted donations claimed to be this progressive that certainly disliked DWS and then saw it as being politically correct,,he endorsed Hillary...what a phony.

Whenever Reich endorses someone else it is spun as a shocking rebuke for Clinton. In reality, for Reich to have endorsed her, then or now, would have been very unexpected.
Who cares if he knew her a long time ago. So did Joe Lieberman. I don't expect Reich to support her in a primary any more than I expect Lieberman to support her in a general election.

What a disgustingly dis-honest headline to this story. Very Karl Rove-like.
Intentionally omitting the "and I have nothing but respect for her" is a tad egregious.
Can't believe after 63 years of being a Democrat, that members of my own party have become so flagrantly dis-ingenuous. I'm embarrassed for the party.
Everyone I talk with here in Santa Fe, has the same opinion
The rabid, classless Bernie supporters are ruining it for the incredibly classy Bernie Sanders.
He deserves so much better.

(9,214 posts)"and I have nothing but respect for her" would have fit into the title line. It was included in the body though, perhaps if you re-read the OP you will find it the second time.
As long as I'm here, would you be one of those "I would support Bernie if it weren't for those rabid, classless Bernie supporters" people that are now unwillingly forced to support Hillary? Or are you just playing one on the internets?

Each of four theoretical traditions in the study of American politicswhich can be characterized as theories of Majoritarian Electoral Democracy, Economic-Elite Domination, and two types of interest-group pluralism, Majoritarian Pluralism and Biased Pluralismoffers different predictions about which sets of actors have how much influence over public policy: average citizens; economic elites; and organized interest groups, mass-based or business-oriented.
A great deal of empirical research speaks to the policy influence of one or another set of actors, but until recently it has not been possible to test these contrasting theoretical predictions against each other within a single statistical model.
We report on an effort to do so, using a unique data set that includes measures of the key variables for 1,779 policy issues.
Multivariate analysis indicates that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on U.S. government policy, while average citizens and mass-based interest groups have little or no independent influence.
The results provide substantial support for theories of Economic-Elite Domination and for theories of Biased Pluralism, but not for theories of Majoritarian Electoral Democracy or Majoritarian Pluralism.
I'd love to hear someone ask Obama and Clinton about this study.

(631 posts)He's not attacking Hillary by promoting Bernie. He's promoting Bernie's cause:
Therefore: This election is about changing the parameters of whats feasible and ending the choke hold of big money on our political system The upcoming election isnt about detailed policy proposals. Its about power whether those who have it will keep it, or whether average Americans will get some as well.
Reich doesn't think details are so critical as is the vision for this election:
Detailed policy proposals are as relevant to the election of 2016 as is that gaseous planet beyond Pluto, Reich said. They dont have a chance of making it, as things are now.
The fundamentals (ending political corruption) need to change before we ever get to detailed policy.
