Why would voters choose Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton?
Food is a good reason for Democrats and Republicans to abscond from their "politics as usual" party loyalties and vote for Bernie Sanders, the 38-year Independent running against Hillary Clinton for the Democratic primary. This article deals with both candidates' positions on two issues that relate to the food we eat - GMOs and the Trans Pacific Partnership.

Is Hillary a Shill for Monsanto?
How is Hillary personally involved in supporting big agriculture? The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), which gathers leaders to solve the world's problems, promotes Monsanto, the maker of RoundUp® and RoundUp Ready® seeds. Hugh Grant, Monsanto's Chairman and CEO spoke at the Clinton Global Initiative conference in September, 2014. Ms. Clinton's top campaign advisor, Jerry Crawford, was a lobbyist for Monsanto for years and is now the political pro for her Super PAC, "Ready for Hillary." Clinton spoke in favor of the government's Feed the Future (FtF) program, a USAID funded, corporate-partnered program that brings RoundUp Ready® technology to the most vulnerable populations of the world. Monsanto and Dow Chemical support Hillary and Bill's 'Clinton Foundation' with generous donations.

Last year, at a San Diego biotech conference, Hillary coached her audience in messaging. "Genetically modified sounds Frankensteinish. Drought-resistant sounds like something you'd want. Be more careful so you don't raise that red flag immediately."

Who Is Likely to Change Food Policy?
“For the past twenty years, our Presidents have consistently appointed pro-chemical company insiders to make decisions about overseeing their own industries.”

Senator Bernie Sanders represents Vermont, the first state in the nation to pass a "right to know" GMO labeling law. He authored an amendment to the 2013 farm bill that would have given states the ability to require labeling so that they don't have to fight for it, state by state, through propositions on the ballot. Sanders' amendment was defeated 71 to 27 in the Senate, even though 93 percent of Americans want GMOs labeled.

"An overwhelming majority of Americans favor GMO labeling but virtually all of the major biotech and food corporations in the country oppose it." says Sanders. Vermont's labeling law is scheduled to go into effect on July 1, 2016. "The people of Vermont and the people of America have a right to know what's in the food that they eat," Sanders said.

“Sanders goes on the record against the Trans Pacific Partnership in its entirety.”

Monsanto's pesticides and GMO crops have been cited by independent scientists as serious threats to the well-being of humans and other organisms. Many countries around the world have taken action to ban or halt the use of GMOs, and Monsanto's herbicide ingredient Glyphosate has been cited as a carcinogen, contributing to cancer and other health hazards. However, Monsanto has sought to influence politicians such as the Clintons via financial contributions and other collaborations that make it appear that Monsanto is concerned with the welfare of people and animals and is working to ensure its products are not causing harm. Monsanto partnering with the Clinton Global Initiative on a project to study honey bee health is an example of how corporate influence is used to diffuse any serious effort to hold the company accountable for the damage caused by its products.

9. European countries ban Roundup

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/roundup-weedkiller-banned-from-french-garden-centres-over-probable-link-to-cancer-10319877.html

France has announced a ban on over the counter sales of a brand of weedkiller from garden centres after the active ingredient was classified as "probably carcinogenic to humans" by the UN.

The UN’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified glyphosate in March as "probably carcinogenic to humans", and is the active ingredient in Roundup.

The US government says the herbicide is considered safe.

But Andreas Kortenkamp, professor of human toxicology at Brunel University, London, said that the people who are most at risk are those applying the weedkiller to their plants.

The
IARC Working Group that conducted the evaluation considered the significant findings from the US EPA report and several more recent positive results in concluding that there is sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals.
Glyphosate also caused DNA and chromosomal damage in human cells, although it gave negative results in tests using bacteria. One study in community residents reported increases in blood markers of chromosomal damage (micronuclei) after glyphosate formulations were sprayed nearby.

is the cross contamination issues . When a neighbouring farmer has a crop "infected" with the modified gene the big corporations have been seizing crops and demanding payment . How is this in any way a viable form of agriculture when even pollination is being "trademarked" ? This is just another form of control on food production to keep their stranglehold on the food market . It is a legal nightmare .

the instructors kept banging on how harmless Glyphosate was . I used that filthy chemical for over 10 years and now they are back peddling ...

Any company that lies and poisons others in such a way should face criminal prosecution , not have the full backing of the political machine . That is yet another reason why Hillary cannot be trusted . And as for the the bees , they are already toast . Look up the most commonly used garden pesticide "Confidor" , kills everything including pollinators . Brought to you by Bayer .
