She basically said that if her plan were NOT passed, we would probably end up with single payer. And of course, nobody wants that. So, friends at Lehman Bros, Hillary's plan is the one you want to support.

(22,340 posts)"People who have health emergencies can't wait for us to have a theoretical debate about some better idea that will never, ever come to pass."
I guess, yeah, she said "theoretical debate" instead of "single payer," but are you really going to spin so hard to try and convince us that she isn't talking about single payer? I mean, maybe she's talking about time travel!

(27,815 posts)... that Bernie's plan for single payer will never happen, not that single payer will never happen.
And in what universe does the term "theoretical debate" mean "single payer"?
As I said, I understand why certain people need to believe that HRC said that single payer would never happen.

Now first of all, one has to ask, in what way does having a debate about health care have anything at all to do with people who are experiencing health emergencies? You and I both know the answer to that: it does not.
Secondly, why does she not want to have a debate about a "better idea"? Whether she is referring to Bernie's plan or to some other way of achieving universal health care, she appears unwilling to discuss it. And that's her biggest misstep, since it removes any credibility she may have had for her previous advocacy on the matter of single payer health care (hint: she used to be for it).
If she is referring to Bernie's single payer plan, she just admitted it's a "better idea".
If she is not referring to Bernie's plan, then she is saying that single payer and/or universal health care will never, ever happen.
Either way, she loses. Not to mention the rest of us, but I digress.

(27,815 posts)... that she wants to build on the foundation of Obamacare - which is already in place. Bernie's plan includes dismantling Obamacare in order to replace it with his plan for single payer. What happens to people with medical emergencies while Bernie's plan is being debated?
Do you honestly think that the GOP, who have voted to repeal Obamacare over 50 times, are going to suddenly embrace single payer? In what universe?
The "theoretical debate" comes about when congress debates the "theoretical" idea that Bernie's plan IS the better idea - not only better, but workable, affordable, and above all acceptable enough to be passed into law.
DU has been full of posts about how Hillary said "Single payer will never, ever pass". But she never said that. She said that Bernie's plan for single payer will never pass - and it wouldn't.
It's sad to see the FOX-News-like insistence that she said something she clearly didn't say. But for some here, specific details as to what was actually said - by HRC or anyone who doesn't worship Bernie - are regularly dismissed as irrelevant.

(10,751 posts)...and I respect that. I did not expect dishonesty though:
That is dishonest and you know it. I know you know it, because you are obviously a very intelligent person. And this is exactly the framing that Chelsea Clinton got reamed for, even by the MSM. Anyone who has followed this election cycle, or has followed Bernie for any part of his career, knows he would not start by dismantling Obamacare and then start a debate on what to replace it with. AND YOU KNOW THAT.
I will not engage further with you in this thread. You should be ashamed of yourself. TTFN
