2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOld Farts for Bernie
Them dang Millennials and even Gen Xers are getting all the publicity. Punk kids with their tattoos.
"Sanders is attracting young enthusiastic young people. That's his base of support."
That's a good thing. But they aren't the only ones who feel the Bern.
Time for us geezers to speak up. It isn't all young Berniebros.
Yeah Vampire's Tutus or whatever they're called may be fine for Bernie to sing with to get him some youth vote. But give me some Zep, some Queen and some Bowie, some Beatles, some Curtis Mayfield, some Public Enemy...maybe a little bit of Mc5....and toss in some Pete Seeger for good measure and inspiration.
Some of us have been watching things and doing things for more than a few decades. Me? I'm 63 (but told I look like early 50's, so don't picture some grey haired gnome...not yet anyway). I've seen this wheel go around many times.
And I'm (to paraphrase another DUer) Proud to Stand with Bernie. Hell I was standing withe Bernie back in the 90's when he was castigating Bill Clinton's favorite economist Alan Greenspan, when most otehr Dems were singing his praises.
Bernie comes from a great line from that era, including the late great and still much lamented Paul Wellstone.
I've been hoping for someone with even half of Sander's values and principles and character to show up for one of the periodic circuses we call presidential elections for a long time. I am now pleasantly surprised to see that the real thing is running and generating a lot of enthusiasm and support....It's about damn time.
Now get off my lawn....unless you're putting a Bernie sign on there.
Keep that lawn looking good...

(115,732 posts)I'd like to see some of those young whippersnappers ON my lawn, with Bernie lawn signs. Might have to get them myself. This old ex-hippie supported McCarthy and voted for McGovern - been around the political block a few times. Now I'm a geezer but just as for-real liberal as ever. Bernie is the best candidate I've seen in a very long time.

I'm like you I've been looking for that person who I could say I agree with wholeheartedly and damn if he didn't show up and I'll be damned if I don't support him 100%.
When we bought this place it was fenced and cross fenced and I proceeded to tear them all down, pulled them up by the roots. Come one come all if you aren't my friend when you get here you will be by the time you leave.

Lots of creativity out there being sent Bernie's way. We ought to have a contest.

Democrats have an historic opportunity to wrest control of the party from the 1%. Bernie's candidacy offers voters a clear choice -- do we want to nominate a progressive champion of change for the 99%, or do we want a center right candidate who represents the status quo, is cozy with Wall Street, voted for the Iraq clusterfuck, and who is hated with a passion by Republicans everywhere?
Proud to join other Boomers in supporting a candidate who has our aching backs!!

(21,210 posts)guess we did something right
We do not know any Clinton supporters, maybe it is just the company we keep.
But we do know registered Republicans who are not happy with any of their choices and would not vote for Clinton, but they would vote for Sanders. Many of them also crossed party lines to vote for Obama and they would do it again for Sanders.
Great job and how proud you must be as a parent to have raised a child that thinks 'out of the box.'

But I am all for Bernie, because he represents to me the best Democratic presidentiai candidate since Robert Kennedy.

Johanna drove slowly into the city
The Hudson River all filled with snow
She spied the ring on His Honor's finger
Oh-oh-oh
A thousand years in one piece of silver
She took it from his lilywhite hand
Showed no fear - she'd seen the thing
In the Young Men's Wing at Sloan-Kettering
Look outside at the raincoats coming, say OH
His Honor drove southward seeking exotica
Down to the Pueblo huts of New Mexico
Cut his teeth on turquoise harmonicas
Oh-oh-oh
I saw Johanna down in the subway
She took an apartment in Washington Heights
Half of the ring lies here with me
But the other half's at the bottom of the sea

(2,125 posts)Love me some Zep too. I just turned 55 and for the first time in my life I'm actually excited about a candidate. Of course back in the 90's I was ecstatic when Bill Clinton got Pappy Bush out before a second term but that didn't really turn out so well in retrospect. I really thought a lot of Hillary back then, but my eyes have been opened to what the Clintons really stand for - and that is the Clintons. I'm feeling the Bern big time.
That reminds me - I have to go out and get a Bernie sign for my lawn!
