Bernie Sanders’ wife visits Davenport hospice patient

Presidential campaigns like to talk about hope.

On Friday, the Bernie Sanders campaign delivered it in person to Deborah Gilbert of Davenport.
She and her family never saw it coming.

“We were just flabbergasted!” Gilbert says. “I think that’s the only word for it, just flabbergasted.”

Bernie Sanders’ wife, Jane Sanders, paid a visit to the Gilbert family’s home.

“We all stood in the middle of the living room after she left, and we were like, ‘What just happened?’ You know, we tried to get our bearings, because it was quite a shock.”

After being diagnosed with terminal cancer last summer, she has since learned she is not eligible for life-extending treatments because she also suffers from a form of muscular dystrophy.
Now in hospice care, Gilbert’s dying wish is to attend her first caucus Monday night to support Bernie Sanders.

The fact that the Sanders' would not have mentioned the visit at all. That's how they roll.

What a sad, but inspiring story. Jane Sanders seems like a very kind woman.
