(35,015 posts)Hillary's campaign wasn't expecting such a close race, so they're scrambling to bring in some new people, shift things around, and change her message.
It's too late for that.

(454 posts)Hillary may yet claim the nomination but it will cost her the General unless she crafts some novel new stratagem.
Bernie went from down 50pts to a tie, a tie that Hillary maintains a molecule thin lead in via a few lucky coin tosses.

(18,115 posts)Hillary got 274 more voters go for her. Under that measure she won.
She currently has 3 or 4 more state delegates, but that number will change when o'malley's 8 are allocated. So under that measure, she is "winning," winner to be determined.
As for pledged delegates in the primary, she has 1 more, again it will change. So she is winning there.
She did win.
But the most important metric, public perception, she lost big. Blew a 30+ point lead in two months. Blew the bank and Bernie is down only one pledged delegate, heading into his home turf, where his victory will be decisive. He is the story, she lost the game of politics.

(2,807 posts)Delagate wise, it was pretty much a tie. To New Hampshire and beyond.

(15,558 posts)but she clearly lost her "inevitability".
Cali_Democrat
(30,439 posts)It's a very simple and straightforward question.
I'm surprised so many folks here are having trouble answering it.

(30,439 posts)Why are 70% of DUers saying he won Iowa?

(80,708 posts)She knows it, her campaign knows it, even her supporters here desperately trying to spin it into some kind of definitive and primary-concluding victory (lol) know it.

(30,439 posts)Hillary also won more state delegate equivalents.
In what world is that a tie?
This isn't AYSO soccer where everyone gets a trophy.

(80,708 posts)You could read it all over their faces.
I realize it is anathema to a certain Clintonian style of politics to ever admit that maybe there's a problem, but, there's a problem.
And if she IS gonna be our nominee- I still give it pretty good odds- plopping around in a delusional stupor about "She's doing GREAT zomg, no problems here, her style, positions and messaging are exemplary!" is gonna set us all up for some real fuckin' problems this November.
Cali_Democrat
(30,439 posts)Looking at pledged delegates and SDE's, I'm seeing Hillary winning.
Where is this so-called tie?
Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)Again, you know exactly what happened. So does the media. So does the American people. So does the Clinton family AND the Hillary campaign.
So give it up. Or keep spinning, if it makes you feel better.

(30,439 posts)The person claiming 23 to 21 is a tie or the one who says it isn't a tie?
Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)But there's not jack shit you can do about it.

(30,439 posts)Simple truth that you apparently can't handle.

(80,708 posts)In terms of final delegate count, yes, Hillary came out with 2 more than Sanders. But the importance of Iowa- reasonably intelligent people know this- is not the final delegate count so much as it is momentum and temperature-taking of the electorate. The final percentages were 49.9% to 49.6%. Yes, had this been a presidential election the person with a few more votes would get the office. But again, we all know that the real prize from Iowa is, again, perception of momentum and an indication of how the voters feel about the candidates.
In all those regards, Hillary performed well below expectations, and Sanders; who came into this from way behind and was practically unknown, demonstrated that he is not going away, not this week.
Anyone who watches the two speeches last night can see who has the momentum. It's obvious.
But go ahead, continue with the condescension, the deliberate obtuseness, the meaningless memes, the distractions, the denial, the entitlement, the perpetual belief that the "Dreary", "inauthentic", "phony", "uninspiring" campaign - words from an Op-Ed you guys called "spot on" - is actually connecting with the voters, all of it.... Team Clinton may think it's working, but it isn't.

(11,945 posts)She lost her "inevitable" status, he gained a more definite "possible" status.
For the millions who, due to the MSM blackout, barely knew who he was, Bernie has become visible.
Now a larger share of America can Feel the Bern.
Yes, Iowa was a win for the Sanders campaign.

(15,435 posts)OTHER, that was never true!! Oh how hard they tried, and will keep trying. What people heard him talk about didn't match WHAT other's said he IS!
People began to believe that Socialism ISN'T Communism! He showed who he was, and people REALLY like WHO he is!
