2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumFYI possibly offensive content! NSFW. Hillary take care of this NOW! ASAP!
So this is just coming across the news.....
Not pretty at ALL. The excuse by the campaign though....eeeks. I hope Hillary takes care of this ASAP because this will hurt a lot of Dems potentially.

A visible supporter of Hillary Clintons presidential campaign has used anti-gay language on Twitter in the past.
Karen Civil, a music media personality, emceed the launch event of African Americans for Hillary at Clark University in Atlanta last year and was listed as a social media influencer on a list of the 170 African American Women Leaders Stand with Hillary Clinton, on a Clinton campaign press release sent Wednesday.
Civil detailed her experience with African Americans For Hillary, in a blog item posted to the campaigns website on Nov. 6, 2015, titled, I helped launch African Americans for Hillary Clinton. This is my story.
A BuzzFeed News review of her Twitter account uncovered tweets from 2009 in which Civil used the word fag and faggot. Civil also tweeted about her jew ways when it came to spending money.
A Clinton campaign official told BuzzFeed News: While we welcome the support of everyone, were only able to control that which is said by our campaign.

(26,371 posts)Just hit the archives and read some of the discussions of LGBT issues here during the 2008 campaign and you will see some truly shocking things.
Most of the people who posted those offensive remarks are still here and now pretending that they always adored us. Hell, some of them were even wounded to the very core of their being a few weeks back by actual LGBT people daring to criticize the Human Rights Campaign!

(29,265 posts)that ensues where they then smear people who object with the "you're too sensitive" crap. I stay out of it most of the time but it's disheartening. Bonded, as we theoretically are, by compassion.

(2,522 posts)Taking into consideration this is >6 years ago, she has probably grown up some. Nothing more recent than this, give her a break.
but nope, not when Hillary supporters still cite Cornell West and his comments. Turn about is fair play.
HubertHeaver
(2,522 posts)She may be as immature as the rest but, allow her to demonstrate it with current statements.

HubertHeaver
(2,522 posts)Since it is out, give her a chance to make amends.
Or a shovel.

(2,522 posts)Until she demonstrates otherwise, I will assume she has seen the error of her ways.
If she is still tweeting like that, talking like that, then she has problems she need to address.

Actually, it's worse than the same thing, since no Sanders supporter has said anything comparable to that.

(40,656 posts)they don't do that for others. Just theirs. You need a rule book around here. She is a bigot. I don't give her a break until its proven she still doesn't believe that shit.
HubertHeaver
(2,522 posts)She's in a hole. Offer her a hand to get out or a shovel. If she graciously accepts the hand, then all is well. If she chooses the shovel, more power to her. Either way, her recent choice.

(146,325 posts)everyone who endorses her before accepting the endorsement? Really? I can't imagine that anyone would expect any candidate to do that.
Such expectations are simply silly. Now, that young woman certainly said some stupid things seven years ago. No question about that.
I've never heard of her, though, nor did I even know she had endorsed Hillary.
Should we start looking back at everything Bernie's endorsers have said or written? Say, Killer Mike? I don't think so.

(5,761 posts)All you have to do is jump on twitter and type @username followed by any bad words. Literally 60 seconds of time is all. That is it.
You say it's silly but shit like this damages campaigns badly.
Sure go ahead and look at what Killer Mike says, be my guest. You find anything let me know because I'll bitch about that too.
This is the modern age and people to seem to forget that the internet NEVER forgets.
Anybody who has used bigoted homophobic comments along with antisemitism has ZERO business anywhere close to a presidential campaign IMHO

(146,325 posts)I'm sure that nobody else does, either. Except maybe clickbait websites like BuzzFeed.
I don't care what that person tweeted years ago, nor do I care if she endorsed Hillary. It's just not that interesting to me. Now, when Al Franken endorses her, I pay attention. I'll bet you could find him using bad words at some point, too. Knock yourself out...
pinebox
(5,761 posts)it's ammo for the right, see the whole Jeremiah Wright crap.
BuzzFeed is clickbait? lol Hardly.
You should care because she's your candidate and this has the potential to do damage. As I said it's just coming across the wires.
MineralMan
(146,325 posts)This is a nonsense story. Nobody cares about it.
So, it's "coming across the wires," eh? Thanks for dropping it into the DU punch bowl, I guess. It's irrelevant to pretty much everything.
If you think BuzzFeed is a worthwhile source, you're welcome to that thought, I suppose. It brings to mind the following lyrics from "Jesus Christ Superstar"
"Whats the buzz? Tell us what's a'happening."
pinebox
(5,761 posts)Those who forget the past are bound to repeat it.
It's canon fodder for the right.
BuzzFeed isn't a worthwhile source? LOL Why is it that Hillary supporters seem so out of touch with new media. Facebook, twitter, et al. It's rather astonishing.

Karen should apologize, tell us if she's changed her views.

(50,254 posts)Bernie supporters(many of whom voted and campaigned for Obama) never had a problem with the idea of a black man being president. And we don't use words like that.
