(20,709 posts)And from what I understand, the Flint water crisis has to do with lead contamination from old pipes and pollution from the Flint river, and not fracking.
Arazi
(6,829 posts)Im not surprised you don't see the connection.
If she were concerned about the plight of tainted water for people, then she'd also be standing up for those whose water is being contaminated by fracking.
Oh but she supports fracking...so inconvenient that. And she's a war hawk
She's only "concerned" when it's politically attractive. It's not heartfelt or she'd have a consistent message on everything.

(6,829 posts)she has to rush there (even though this has been going on since 2014 and the PEOPLE of Flint don't want her there)
Yet she supports fracking that's responsible for tainting the drinking water aquifers of several states! Because she's beholden to special interests that pay her big bucks. You don't see her rushing off to Oklahoma to help those folks
And fucking cluster bombs because she's a war monger be holding to the MIC that pays her big bucks.
Hillary supporters wonder why, why, why we don't trust her. Here's a classic example yet you refuse to even acknowledge it - it's "just Hillary bashing".

(8,086 posts)Cluster bombs aren't delivered by mail you know, or shipped through Amazon. They're generally dropped from planes. The F-35 will most assuredly be a part of whatever air campaign drops those cluster bombs you so rightfully condemn, bombs that will no doubt kill some children. Maybe in Chad, maybe somewhere else.
So, when Bernie talks about peace, is he being a hypocrite?
BTW, I'm a Bernie supporter. His F-35 vote is one of his stands (along with his vote providing exceptional protection to the big gun companies--which got him praise from Wayne LaPierre) that make me cringe. But I'll vote for him anyway, because by and large I agree with him more than I do with Hillary.
But if I were to use your brand of litmus on him, I'd probably just give up and stay home. Then again, maybe that's the point of some of the folks here who are so vitriolic.
It's long past time for the most vituperative of the supporters on both sides to tone it down. All you're doing, at this point, is providing ammunition for the GOP to use in the general. Then again, it could be that's the whole point.

(210 posts)My best friend is from Flint, I grew up an hour from there. My Flint people are for Bernie Sanders. They don't like the Clintons. Flint was destroyed by Reagan, and the Clinton years was more of the same for Flint. You ever been there?
DanTex
(20,709 posts)But the person they elected to represent them, the mayor, has praised Hillary for her efforts.
I had Prick Snyder as my Governor in MI before I moved, that doesn't mean he represents me. WE didn't elect him, he doesn't represent me. Hell I worked on both campaigns against him. The mayor may represent those who elected her, and she may like the Clintons. I don't care about her opinion of Clinton, and none of my friends in Flint care for the Clintons. Flint is a city of auto workers. We know what was done during the Clinton years helped destroy the auto industry. If you say the word NAFTA around someone from Flint, be ready to hear some shit talking! People don't forget when their lucilius livelihood is ruined by terrible trade agreements. You had better believe my Flint people (especially the few who are lucky enough to have an autoworker job) care about TPP. Don't get me started on what the crack cocaine sentencing, welfare "reform", and mandatory minimums did to this city. But you didn't answer the question, do you know anybody in Flint?
DanTex
(20,709 posts)Hillary's going there to help, and the mayor has praised her for it. Are there going to be some people upset? Of course. People get upset all the time.
winterwar
(210 posts)Is it anecdotal to say that the only people who are bothered by Mrs. Clinton are Bernie fans who live nowhere near Flint? I told you that people in Flint, especially autoworkers, don't like the Clintons. This is from my people in Flint. But you, in Texas I assume, speak on the internet about it. I've been delivering water with the local UAW all week to Flint. 20 TONS of water, from my former local. But how about NAFTA? What do the people of Flint think about that?

(45,850 posts)Flint Mayor Karen Weaver says she will not call for Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder's resignation over the water crisis in her city.
Asked at the U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting in Washington, D.C., what repercussions Snyder should face, she said Snyder needs to remain in place to provide "the services and the money, the funds that we need to address the population."
Flint's water became contaminated with too much lead when its water source was switched in a cost-cutting measure in 2014. Protesters called for the governor's resignation as he delivered his State of the State speech Tuesday night.
Weaver refused to join those calls, saying she is staying focused on what she can get from the governor to resolve the crisis.

(15,805 posts)target the Republicans who orchestrated the water crisis and have been criminally negligent in mitigating the damages or repairing the lives of their constituents. It also lets the residents see who actually comes to their town to listen to their problems... which is a good way to get voter attention.
If this is new to you, politicians have always taken advantage of their gravitas and powerful brand recognition to focus media attention on areas that highlight their concerns or policies that might be of particular interest to the community. Back in the day, we used to call it "consciousness raising", and anything that makes the GOP look bad and Democrats look good, is a handy tool to use.

It's important that Democrats show up in places where the government failed to safeguard the people, and talk about what happened and how to fix it. Our party stands for the idea that government can do things for people, so we need to back that up.

(42,641 posts)Clinton, according to aides, "intends to use her trip to Flint to urge the Republican-controlled Senate to approve the Senate Democrats' $600 million amendment to help Flint." The announcement comes on the same day that Senate Democrats blocked an energy bill over funding for Flint..........
Clinton has made Flint a focus of her campaign since the contaminated water issue was discovered, arguing that if the crisis had happened in a rich Detroit suburb, the response would have been faster and more effective.
