Who here plans on watching the republican debate? I hope that lots of people here are tuning in for the circus.
What Im really hoping for are a few discussion threads where DU community members set aside their Democratic Partys primary contest, and take a real hard look at the republican candidates. I know that there have been numerous OP/threads in recent months talking about the republican field. But tonight, I believe we are going to see a few of their candidates trying to shift into higher gear.
Im not interested in advocating our candidate as the lesser-of-two-evils. But, in this instance, besides thinking our candidates are good, I am convinced that the republicans are pushing an evil agenda. And so Im interested in everyones opinion on them
Peace,
H2O Man

(30,099 posts)in many ways. It is important to hear them and what they're telling the American
voter.
Rubio is the one to watch, he seems to be gaining steam and is their adorable
neocon establishment guy. He talks to the young conservatives and tries to
relate to their college debt and may be successful at reigning in enough
Hispanic voters who are socially conservative.

(764 posts)and if that group of royal used car salespeople will listen...
Jefferson23
(30,099 posts)Rubio could be a challenge for Democrats, somewhat, but he has to
manage the Hispanic vote much better and he seems to be going
in that direction.
Some of the establishment's elders aren't fond of Rubio. Bush the Elder's buddies still have some juice in their party. So, some of the establishment thinks Rubio is their best bet; while others are telling the other establishment candidates to knee-cap him tonight.

(4,387 posts)...they won't be prepared for Bernie. He'll destroy them. He doesn't pander and he doesn't take crap from anyone (except Hillary right now because he has to or be called sexist). He's spent 30 years going after these kinds of policies and is more than ready to handle it.

(23,867 posts)I remember cringing when seeing debates back in the 80's and forward. These men are resolute about what they believe in. So much so that they'll use aggression to accomplish it.
I think Bernie is doing a huge job for us by simply standing up and defending.
Gregorian
(23,867 posts)If he kept that up he could eventually end up the nominee. Although, it's a Bush.
H2O Man
(73,559 posts)It's still hard for me to accept that our nation is so screwed up that these fellows would be considered as possible options as presidential candidates. The only one that might, in a more stable time, be considered as a conservative option for vice president would be Kasich .....and that is because there have been lesser-qualified candidates, and that wasn't limited to Dan Quayle (though he was on the winning ticket once).
