2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernstein on CNN: WH is "terrified" that HRC is blowing her campaign and may lose.
He spoke to Poppy Harlow for many minutes, citing reasons why people in the WH have told him that Obama is flabbergasted and unhappy that Hillary has made many mistakes and is not showing well. Harlow actually tamped him down a couple of times, seeming to be afraid to let him say what he had to say.
Will post the video if it comes available.

I thought your post in another thread, to which I just responded, was an aberration of judgment. Now I come into this thread and find this post of yours, which tells me these rather bizarre opinions of yours aren't aberrations but reliable identifiers.
Sure: Hillary Clinton has made no mistakes in her campaign. LOL.

The entire Clinton circus deserves to be put down. Early and often.

(27,247 posts)It's about the only thing Obama has overtly campaigned really hard for, and he had to solicit lots of Republican support when the majority of his own party in Congress was opposed to it.
Hillary-- "TPP sets the gold standard for trade agreements."
-- "With what I know today, I would not be in favor of it."
-- "I will not actively lobby against the TPP."
Bernie-- "I will do whatever I can to defeat the TPP."

(10,126 posts)What we are seeing is that Hillary Clinton could be a very capable President, but she is a terribly flawed candidate who has ethical baggage that is costing her terrifically, the GOP is exploiting it, and in Bernie Sanders we have a candidate who has begun a real movement the likes of which we haven't seen -- and I'd like to know what Bob (Beckel) thinks about this -- since Bobby Kennedy.
That there is a potential -- I never would have believed this a few weeks ago -- for him to go on and win the nomination, and he has hit on the issues that go to her weaknesses which have to do with character issues and trust.
On Flint:
Bernstein began by expressing his hope that Clinton and Sanders would not attack each other on the issue of Flint's problems:
"I would hope this rises above this political race, that both she and Sanders have said the right thing. Sanders has said that this governor should leave office. He ought to be recalled. This is a terrible thing that's happened and shouldn't be exploited in a presidential campaign. They're both on the same wavelength -- Sanders and Hillary -- on this."
On Speech Transcripts
He then pivoted to Clinton's paid speeches which he saw as a big problem:
"And let's talk about the real questions. And the real question that's been raised, as Chuck Todd did last night, is this question of the transcripts of Hillary Clinton's meetings and speeches before these groups. It's not going to go away. She's going to need to produce them, or she is in terrible, terrible trouble if she can't."
She can't produce them if they have a Romney-like 47% comment - for example, maybe sucking up to Wall Street in some way.

(14,733 posts)After all, if she has the only copies, she just needs to make sure what she releases has nothing particularly damning in them, and no one will be able to produce proof that anything was edited out.
Avalux
(35,015 posts)There's no evidence of the speeches, and no other copy of the transcripts. It would be easy to edit and then release them.

saltpoint
(50,986 posts)problems in her campaign.
It lacks a thematic rationale.
It lacks language. With the dough she has to spend she could hire a dozen speech writers.
It lacks emphasis on 'We' and over-emphasizes "I" whenever she fields reporters' questions.
It lacks coherence and coordination. Her surrogates are a complete mess.
And as you indicate, it kind of lacks a candidate, too. Her limitations are vulnerabilities and she just is not making a case for her candidacy right now.
sorechasm
(631 posts)If there is a drive to care about the American people, it comes across as: confront our enemies with rancor. Building a consensus by defining a common enemy only works in the short term. It is not a vision, it's a defense. She has to keep circling the wagons, defining all who disagree with her as her sworn enemy. Didn't work in 2008, and it doesn't appear to be working now.
Besides his integrity, Bernie doesn't have too many advantages over Hillary. It's been working because his opponent appears completely lacking it.
saltpoint
(50,986 posts)(it's not just the rogue surrogates). And at the same time, that lack of self-awareness is maybe the largest problem.
If Sanders is running solidly to enthusiastic crowds about the 1 percent, why would she invoke Kissinger? But of course she did.
