By that definition:

Ted Cruz is a progressive...towards theocracy.

Donald Trump is a progressive...towards corparatocracy.

Hillary's history does suggest which direction she would progress, and it's iffy at best if it's the right direction.

by policies that cater to the whims of a ruling class that puts profit over the needs of the whole. If taking an unrelenting stance against that destruction is purist...then purists fighting against that should proudly wear that label.

All the “when will you purists ever be happy” really means is “when will you fall in line with the idea that it is business as usual and stop upsetting our defense of that”

Progressivism is a broad philosophy based on the Idea of Progress, which asserts that advancement in science, technology, economic development, and social organization are vital to improve the human condition.

snip

The contemporary common political conception of progressivism in the culture of the Western world emerged from the vast social changes brought about by industrialization in the Western world in the late 19th century, particularly out of the view that progress was being stifled by vast economic inequality between the rich and the poor; minimally regulated laissez-faire capitalism with out-of-control monopolistic corporations; and intense and often violent conflict between workers and capitalists, thus claiming that measures were needed to address these problems.

“it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.”

“The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.”

“The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master—that’s all.”

Some people think progress is about equal opportunity. Other people think it's about collective self-improvement.
