(22,308 posts)I have flannel shirts, some of them plaid. I even used to have a red and black one similar to that, although with thinner stripes.
They are work shirts.
A guy worth 80 mil (who's wife is worth an additional 31 mil) should not be wearing that shirt out to a public event.
It is more of a costume than an outfit.
When have you ever seen him dress like that before?
Nitram
(22,853 posts)Just askin'.
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)A public speaking event is not an appropriate event to do so.
Remember, this guy gets paid hundreds of thousands of dollars an hour to do this for other rich people.
Donning this costume for the yokels is inappropriate.
Not a strong attempt to turn this around on me, it really did fail badly.

(11,573 posts)And that's not exactly a white-tie event.
Props to Goblin, though. Her opponents have stopped obsessing about Hillary's pantsuits and focused in on men's wear.
Hey, let's hear it for equal-opportunity absurdity!
2pooped2pop
(5,420 posts)Lol and since the shirt looks brand new, probably not something he actually wears but shows that he thinks the people there are yokels. He thinks they will think he's just like them.

(47,209 posts)Holy shit, you ought to be embarrassed. Just wow.

Goblinmonger
(22,340 posts)Bill Clinton is fucking tone deaf. Bill Clinton is pandering with his costume. Bill Clinton looks ridiculous.
Here is how I tried to highlight that:
What if Hillary wore FUBU. It would be fucking tone deaf. It would be ridiculous.
Or are you being deliberately obtuse?

(2,474 posts)In Krugmans correctly scornful assessment, the press corps turned the Bush-Gore race into a "campaign about clothing!" In recalling the campaign through this lens, Krugman most strongly evokes this month of Wolf, in which ludicrous claims about Gores wardrobe entered the public discourseand stuck. (Naomi Wolf told Al Gore to wear earth tones! Sadly, theres much more below.) During this episode, the press corps behaved as it did throughout this campaign; as a group, they used bogus facts about consummate trivia to advance pre-conceived tales about character. In this case, the trivia concerned this candidates clothinghis boots, his suits, his polo shirts, the number of buttons on his suit jackets (three). The height at which he hemmed his pants. The way he wore casual clothing to some events, business attire to others.
You might read the whole book, or read the original real time critic of campaign 2000 here.

(5,506 posts)He walked across the state wearing this shirt. I'm sure Bill remembers, since he was next door in Arkansas at the time.
Can't help but wonder if this isn't some sort of wink-wink message across the parties.

(11,366 posts)was using my university as a stepping stone.
I can tell you he never once wore plaid in the University of Tennessee's inner administrative sanctum.
It was one of the few times I really had to struggle to stay impartial.
I once spent a whole day with Fred Thompson riding around the Great Smoky Mountains when Congress was considering making park-goers pay a user fee (it was rejected) because I was writing a story on the legislation and his visit (when I was working professionally). While my politics were not in the same ball park as his, he was, at least, a nice and considerate guy. Lamar was just what I called him in my title: a prick.

(5,506 posts)Alexander royally screwed up the state education system & used it as a springboard to a cabinet position in HW's administration.
Sorry your tenure at UT was tainted by his smug prickness.
Thompson actually practiced law for a significant number of years, which requires the ability to connect w/other people on a human level. While Lamar only practiced for 3-4 yrs, spending the majority of his professional life in DC. That probably just increased his prickness. LOL

(50,302 posts)It's like Bill comes up to our neck of the woods - let's call it Hickville, NH - and it's mandatory he wear a checked, flannel shirt. It cracks me up. I said he probably refers to it as his New Hampshire primary shirt. LOL. The other day I noticed Chelsea was wearing green and black checks. They must have a "country" stylist.

(2,101 posts)Back in the day we flannel wearing locals would head up to the ski slopes at Hunter Mountain. We would wear slacks, button up shirts, and nice shoes. We were going out after making sawdust all week, or doing whatever. Those driving up from the city would do the opposite; they wanted to look like they belonged. The role reversals were comical - anyone dressed like a lumberjack was a joke to us, just as certainly were we to them.

(1,052 posts)when the majority of stories that even mentioned Sanders included some variation of the combination "rumpled suit" and "no chance to win," it must have been a coincidence.
longship
(40,416 posts)It's either Sanders' rumpled suits or Hillary's unicolored pant suits. Either way we would lose to the GOP's tailored Italian suits.
That is why sartorial arguments are worthless.
