The optics of that are terrible... He needs to stop that shit and look at Romney directly... It comes off as weak and as if he's intimidated. I'm sure he's not but it comes off that way..
That worked against McCain but not tonight. You're the FUCKING PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. ACT LIKE IT!!!!!!!

(827 posts)Folks, he's not looking down at the notes as if he has a zinger or a comeback he wants to make sure he gets off.
It doesn't come off well. At all. It doesn't appear strong. At all.
We know he's a strong leader, but it's not coming off in this debate, especially since he's not laying into Romney the way he could easily do.

I really do think the President was trying to retain his composure while Mitt was allowed to roll out platitude and lie after lie, with none of those details that Jim was pretending he wanted to hear!
Jim let Rmoney rattle on and on and waited for a pause to stop him. Whereas when our president paused to think before speaking, Jim felt just fine to jump in and get him to stop.
The President made great points. He showed that Romney had no facts, no details. He showed that Romney is all talk and no truth.
I certainly hope that people on the street heard the president telling the truth.
