2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWe registered about 50 college students today.
What a blast seeing the dawning of political involvement in their faces. We'd ask if they're registered to vote at their current address and they'd stop short with a look sweeping over them, like, wow, I can do this right here? The only real challenge was getting their attention through their earbuds.
Some were just changing their addresses, but most were 1st-time voters who were psyched to find out how easy it was to register and acted as if they were getting something valuable for free. Which is of course what was happening.
For me, the experience of today was a gift, too.

(23,156 posts)the registration thing to be able to vote. Surely there's a way to simply let everyone vote come election day.
If nothing else, high schools ought to be registering kids as soon as they turn 18.

(1,451 posts)A young friend of mine recently registered to vote, albeit as a Republican. She told me it was because her whole family is Republican. I promised to educate her. As a young, single mom the Democrats have way more to offer. GOTV

(9,497 posts)I come from the Emerald City, and I see plenty of Bernie stickers and we have more donors than she does. However, she has far outraised funds here.
Still...we were the first city to say yes to $15 per hour.

"Way back when" (Dean campaign) we'd set up outside the Federal building in Newark, NJ, where they hold naturalization and oath ceremonies three times a day. We registered people from all walks of life. but it was a special kick to sign up new citizens!
It's time i volunteered again. I've been too demoralized for too long. You inspire me.
