Courage of convictions: A case for Bernie Sanders
For me, it's never been about what Bernie is promising to give me (by the way I'm a bill paying adult, to silence that meme) instead it's always been about what he believes in and the lengths he would go to protect progressive programs and ideas.
Yes, Hillary would probably work better with congress, but is that necessarily a good thing especially when the house is gerrymandered for a republican majority, and the senate needing essentially 60 votes to pass anything? For me that's scary. Aside from a few issues (none of which involve the economy, or issues of war and peace) has she shown ANY conviction in her decision making?
Just because the demographics are kind to us now doesn't mean we should rest on our laurels and settle for someone who is now a born-again progressive. This isn't the 90's, we as progressives shouldn't have Stockholm syndrome when it comes to any politician that has a (D) next to their name, but doesn't represent our values.
Even from a strictly political point of view, how can we enter an anti-establishment electorate with someone who is the definition of establishment? Doing that will cede any anti-establishment sentiment among independents to the republicans, which wouldn't be terrible if Hillary could "max out" the democratic vote in the general, and I just don't see that happening.
