Romney lost big last night

After mulling over the debate for a day, I've come to the conclusion that Romney made a huge strategic error last night. True, you could say he won the debate, meaning that he academically won it (like on the debate team in school). Of course that means very little when it comes to winning the presidency. In the real world you must make the most of a high profile debate to make your position as clear as you can. Mitt missed his single chance to play it straight, spell out the details of his plan, and offer critique of his opponent. Instead he left the audience with his impression of a snarling, slobbering mad-dog. He may have won the debate but lost the fight.

A lot of swing voters will give him a second look.

Huge tactical error to not hit Romney on 47%.

these rallies show that Obama has a lot of support and no matter how many 'on the fencers' there is it won't matter one wit as Obama has enough voters to win this thing running away with it.

It sure wasn't facts or even information on what his plans were. Except for his threat on Big Bird, he gave no substance to suggest that he has a plan.

It was the same vague hollow rhetoric only flip-flopped from previous rhetoric. If anything, any one who listened to him before was looking for a reason to consider him, they would be more confused.

AND .... there they will find the tax policy that Obama said Mitt had.

The problem is that when anyone looks to see what exactly he is for will find that it is completely confusing. Maybe they will try to look back at Romney's recent comments --- then they will see that Romney floated an idea of a cap on deductions - at $17,000. Then they might remember that his numbers in the debate were $20,000 or $50,000. ( Given that 17 is not a number one would pick out of the air, I suspect that the cap will not save enough money at $25,000 or $50,000.)

That part of the strategy was correct. It would have come off as hectoring. That's best left for the ads.

Obama lost. PERIOD. End of discussion.

Arguing otherwise or trying to project long term spin favorable to Obama is just nonsense. This gave new life to not only Romney but down ticket as well. We had a chance to bury not only Romney but the right wing as a whole. Obama blew that chance. He performs the same way in next two debates and he will lose and deserve to.

67 million tuned into this debate, the most since 1980. You think somehow this was a win?

That doesn't mean the race is now Romney's to lose or that Obama's toast. It just means we lost a round.

But stop stop stop trying to make this a win.

The President's best night? No. But, I myself prefer substance over style any day. Forget Big Bird, Romney was the one acting like the chicken with the you-know-what cut off. I wonder how many people really want his 'whatever mood I'm in' style so near the launch codes.

Let's see what happens after the town hall.

It's really quite obvious that Mitt's choice of a strategy was poor. It has no sustaining power.
