Related: About this forumThe Hillary Defense
Why is it that whenever someone has a criticism of Bernie, people use the Hillary defense? People judge them separately, I hope, and one being bad at something does not automatically make the other better. It seems as if I cannot ask a simple question about Bernie, without Hillary being used as a defense. I think we should judge each on their own merits if possible.

(10,650 posts)When you attack Sanders with the Hillary campaign smear du jour, it usually involves some issue where Hillary has an even worse REAL problem. You can't attack Bernie for something and not expect Bernie's supporters to counter with an example of Hillary's failure in the same area you are attacking Bernie.

(4,711 posts)I guess it all comes down to what the individual voter values most. But it answers your question; if Bernie is better on more issues, he probably makes the best choice for the most number of people. It's just cold hard math.

(18,115 posts)it is zero sum. There can and will be only one winner of the Democratic nomination process.
It's point and counterpoint. Slinging mud, some sticks, some splashes back even worse.
And in my opinion, it's a horrible way to choose a President.

I think a lot of them know at this point that making HRC look bad is the only way to make Bernie look good.

(7,011 posts)placing themselves front and center on the world stage, in the line of fire and never shying away from it. Through the decades of that career that person has come to work with a multitude of people from all walks of life, and from different perspectives. When a person is actually trying, pushing, changing, that person will make mistakes, reassess, grow. And in that career, one will gain a plethora of allies, and of enemies--for if one is really putting themselves out there and pushing, mistakes and enemies come with the successes and allies.
If, on the other hand, you retreat to a safe cloister for the bulk of your political career--where you can burnish your purity of principle and never put it forth to have it challenged beyond the weekly phone calls of fans to a radio show--it is easy to emerge from your cloister unscathed to ride the coattails of discontent and claim unwavering principles and baby-soft skin.

(5,204 posts)There's this straw man that we think he's perfect in every way. We don't think that. He's got some flaws. But he'd make an excellent President, and Hillary does poorly in comparison.
