2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDo extreme Hillary supporters realize how you don't need liberal "police" to determine:
How stark the contrasts are between traditional 20th C liberal economic policy an neoliberal economics?
Or how stark the contrasts are between neoconservative foreign policy and sanity?
Or how stark the contrasts are between always standing up for civil rights even when it's not popular and checking the prevailing political winds before deciding what position to take?
We don't need no stinkin' badges!

(6,280 posts)... The new logo and poster for Bernie Sanders campaign to appeal to Latino voters? Yikes!

(18,133 posts)The expression on the actor's face and the tone in which he deliveries the line express the incredulous feeling I had to the other OP referenced above. I don't believe Mel Brooks is a racist, but a comedy genius. Nice try though.
... Mel Brooks borrowed the line from the movie The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. He did change it up slightly. The original quote goes: "Badges? We aint got no badges! We dont need no badges!
I dont have to show you any stinking badges!
Which was taken from the book that used a lot more profanity in the quote.

(31,935 posts)They don't realize that they are supporting Hillary for the same reasons they might support their favorite sports team. It's all identity driven support, it has nothing to do with the issues. They don't recognize the fact that the DNC was hijacked by corporate owned right wing conservative members of the DLC, who have committed themselves to destroying liberalism in America, and that it's no longer at all interested in representing non multi-millionaire Americans. It doesn't matter to them if the DNC is now pro war, pro environmental destruction, pro deregulation of Wall Street, pro privatization, pro job-and-planet destroying trade agreements, and on and on. It's like if 85% of the players on their favorite sports team were found to be involved in organized crime; that wouldn't shake their adoration of "the team" because they view "the team" as an extension of their own identity. Money laundering, drug sales, dog fights, domestic abuse...they'l defend it until the bitter end! The DNC is "the team" to many people here, and Hillary is the official endorsement of "the team", so she can do no wrong in their eyes because she's become an extension of who they are. They're happy to adjust their values and beliefs accordingly. Go Dems! Go team Blue! Beat team Red! And beat that Johnny-come-lately to the "team"! He hasn't been wearing the team colors for long, so it doesn't matter WHAT is values, record and beliefs are! Those don't matter; only labels and "official" endorsements matter.
