2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumJUST VOTED FOR OBAMA/BIDEN with early voting. Check in if you've voted already. Feels good.
In Maine early vote by mail has just started. Got my ballot right in. Actually was near the town hall today so hand delivered it. Here, anyone can vote early by mail (or hand delivered). They send ANYONE who requests a ballot with an absentee envelope, and you vote by mail. Great stuff. You can literally request it online, they mail it to you, and then vote in your kitchen and stick it in your mailbox for delivery. Vote without ever leaving your house.
We also have in-person early voting that starts a few weeks before the election, and we have same-day registration and voting so you can register and vote right on election day. Most of the little rural town clerks love same-day registration because then they don't have to hold as many special town hall hours for registration. (Many small rural town halls are only open a day or two a week.) They urge people to come and register same-day (or re-register if recently moved, name change, whatever).
The TeaPUKES here tried to kill our same-day registration law here last year, and we CRUSHED them on it with a people's veto measure last November. (Too bad they didn't have this law in WI. If so they could have CRUSHED Walker's union busting bill that way rather than so many recalls, just as Ohio did. They should start a petition drive to get a people's veto law in WI or to change their constitution to allow for it.)
This is why in Maine we have one of the highest turnout rates in the nation, something for which we are very proud.

(62,448 posts)Got a feeling we will be so busy from now til Nov.7 we had to get it done.
I live in Iowa. This afternoon I took some vote by mail requests in, at 1:15 in the afternoon on a Friday 6 days after voting started and there was a LINE! Small line, but a line nonetheless.

Ohio has made it more difficult this year (early voting only open during business hours, ffs!), but at least everyone got the option to vote by mail.
