The Republican thought pattern when they're in charge:

Bad jobs report: "We have to cut taxes and spending to encourage battered employers to hire."

Good jobs report: "We have to cut taxes and spending to extend this rally."

Bad stock market report: "The capital gains tax is stifling investment. We have to cut it."

Good stock market report: "Even more people will be able to invest if we cut the capital gains tax."

The government runs a deficit because of all the tax cuts: "If we cut taxes now it will stimulate the economy and increase revenues."

When that doesn't work: "We didn't cut them far enough the first time."

A Democrat gets elected, blows off the Republicans, raises taxes and unfucks the economy for the first time in 30 years: "We have to cut taxes to reward the American people for their perseverance in fixing the deficit."
