Mondale had a huge swing; not enough to really make it awfully close, but another geriatric, sleepy display could have really mixed it up. Instead, Reagan came out, made a sharp joke and Mondale was completely deflated. Buoyed by a good jobs headline, Obama can do the same. It won't turn it into a landslide, but it can skewer Romney's comeback hopes once and for all.

all reagan had to do was show up and tell a joke. obama turned a small lead into what may end up a small deficit. i warned everyone playing it safe and saying nothing is a recipe for disaster.

The good news is that there are 31 days left and three total debates, including Biden. The bad news is that just a week ago, I wished we could fastforward time (and the polls) to November 6. Debates usually dont determine the election, but then again, have we ever had a sitting President perform in a manner that people perceive as he didn't care, was lazy, was lethargic, didn't prepare, didn't take on his opponent, and lacked specifics? Yes, Romney lied, but the media and public didn't call him on it, so he is still viewed as the fiesty winner who cared enough to prepare and know his stuff. I really hate I am wrong, but I dont think the jobs numbers will help significantly in next weeks' polls because of the rightwing conspiracy theories, the media's coverage which legitimized them, and the media's obsession with Obama's debate performance. In order to win now, Obama must have knockout performances in all the remaining debates. Obama should cancel some campaign stops, get Bill Clinton, study like never before, watch all Romney debate tapes, and surround himself with the world's best debate coaches.
