(3,623 posts)Bill Clinton dodged as well and Hillary Clinton lied about her Bosnia "warzone experience" in very similar fashion to Brian Williams from NBC.

(35,364 posts)draft. I have recently seen Trump trashed here for dodging the draft too but the draft dodger thing doesn't count with some I guess.
What was it he had heal spur or something and Limbaugh had a boil on his fat ass.

(3,623 posts)In 1992 he said he and Hillary are a package deal. He fundraises for the campaign. He does big rallies for the campaign. And he is a major part of the campaign's strategy.
You didn't respond to what I said about Hillary's lie regarding sniper fire in Bosnia. Brian Williams' career was ruined for lying in similar fashion.

(35,364 posts)people did have a legitimate medical excuse for not serving. I didn't believe in that f----g war either but I went and fulfilled my
obligation. Me and thousands of others didn't go to Canada or claim conscientious objector status.

(3,623 posts)Is not a former POTUS with huge fundraising power. She is not holding rallies on her own. I seriously doubt she has much of a say in the campaign strategy.
What do you think of Hillary's lie about sniper fire in Bosnia? Please answer this time.

(3,623 posts)You were the one who brought up military service and character at the beginning of this thread. I merely brought up Bill and Hillary's misadventures in response.

as Brian Williams.

(3,623 posts)I don't agree and I suspect Republicans will hammer her for it (as they would hammer Bernie's draft dodging). But I appreciate your insight.

(3,859 posts)He's not a pacifist. He didn't want to participate in an immoral war. There are moral arguments to be made for both Afghanistan and Bosnia.
TTUBatfan2008
(3,623 posts)They released a statement back in September about all of this that he was a pacifist in college and that he is no longer a pacifist.
I think his campaign should just point out that the public elected GWB/Cheney and Clinton for 16 years. Those three were all draft dodgers.
Admiral Loinpresser
(3,859 posts)GWB wasn't elected in 2000, but merely inaugurated.

(4,883 posts)"avoid his service" - no, many people knew that war was wrong and fought the system.
Thank you for doing what you thought was right - and we should all thank the people that did what was right.

(24,010 posts)I watched the whole thing. It is very impressive and very moving. And it covers just a few of the excellent causes and policies that Sanders has championed all his life. It is truly a great moment in our history that this man is running for president!
As for his CO, I wouldn't care if he'd burned his draft card and fled to Canada to avoid participating in that horrendous slaughterhouse in Southeast Asia. There are many kinds of courage, moral courage being the highest of them all. But rather than simply run--which was totally justified in the case of that war, certainly the worst thing that the US has ever done--he stood his ground, and subjected himself to US military laws and procedures, and declared his conscientious objection to that holocaust. Luckily he achieved CO status. He could have gone to prison for refusal to pointlessly kill people who were no threat to us and who were merely defending their country.
I'm from a military family and I certainly know that military service can be honorable and brave but so can objection to unjust war.
Peace
