Wonkette: New Pew Poll Shows End Of Democratic Party As We Know It

I resemble this sarcastic remark (salty-language alert):

PANIC, MOTHERFUCKERS!

A new Pew poll shows Romney up four (49-45%) with likely voters following last week’s debate. According to Twitter, blah blah sampling women Midwest Chuck Todd just DMed me and it was hot, but basically Obama has permanently and totally lost the election after Jim Lehrer didn’t have his back.

What, then, do we do, fellow Obamatards? Do we pick things up and work hard to get Barack Obama elected, making sure we and others turn out in droves?

Hahahaha, fuck you, that takes selfless effort. Blow me. Instead, let’s despair and complain on the internet, endlessly talking about how we could have run Barack Obama’s campaign, and then eventually turn into the Unskewed Polls guy. Paranoid accusations in the face of marginally bad news are no vice, dear people.

Alternately, just drink until Wednesday, when you wake up and find another poll that puts Obama up five (like, say, Gallup), then pick yourself up out of your pool of crusty 47% vomit and go into the job you hopefully still have until Obamacare puts all of capitalism out of business.

The Pew poll is ONE poll, includes mostly Romney's immediate bounce, and may oversample R's. RBInMaine Oct 2012 #3

There is two more debates. What I fear is hacking the vote. There is so much money out there. My son who knows computers says hacking easy and can not be prevented. Money can buy slanted polls to ward off questions of Romney win with hacking.

...is that we know there is more bad news coming today -- specifically, in the form of the PPP/dKos/SIEU poll that we've already been told will show Romney ahead, and in the shift from RV to LV for Gallup, which will almost certainly cut or even eliminate Obama's lead there. Plus, we have no idea how many other snapshot polls, taken mainly last Thursday and Friday, are still waiting to drop. There may be three to five more, all of which may well show Romney with a lead similar to Pew.

The big concern here is that, even of those polls are built on outdated data, they are likely to fuel at least another day of "OMG!!! ROMNEY IS GOING TO WIN!!!" media firestorms -- which, in turn, are likely to encourage bandwagon-jumpers to go with Romney, as well as fire up Repugs and depress liberal voter enthusiasm. And that's just the point -- we know something bad is coming, but we don't know whether it will be a medium dose of bad news or a whole tsunami of it. And, as we saw from MSNBC post-debate, progressives don't do too good a job of handling bad news.

Personally, I'd say that, if we make it to the end of the week with Obama still recognized as being at least slightly ahead, we'll have weathered the worst of the storm. But, in the interim, I could see DU not being a very pleasant place to visit. Personally, I can see a lot of sense in Nate Silver's advice that, if you're the type of person who obsesses over every latest poll, it would probably be best it you restrict your political news for the next few days to places like his site and Intrade, where they take a more-dispassionate, long-range view. Probably a good idea; but one that would probably leave DU virtually deserted for the next few days.

Pew is one of the best pollsters out there. No one had issues with it when it showed Obama leading, let's not degenerate into the right wing ok guys?

The poll is accurate and shows enthusiasm for Romney has picked up. This was inevitable and the fence sitters got a hard on watching him in the debate. This will fade, the question is by how much.

There are a ton of followers in this country that like to go with whoever seems like the winner at the current time. They can and will change on a dime if they feel like it. Right now they think Romney can win just off a debate. Once the narrative changes, AND OBAMA MUST ENSURE IT DOES, they'll switch right back.

It's hard for those of us with strong political convictions to even imagine being undecided at this stage of the race, let alone able to switch from one candidate to the other on the basis of a debate performance.

I wonder if these "followers," as you call them, are the same people who for years have fallen for all those "New and Improved!" claims in product advertising.

You're right though, its amazing to folks like us that follow this stuff how people can be on the fence but I know many of them.

They just don't care about politics at all. It's below many things in their lives. So they read something in the paper and immediately use that as their judgment basis.

Sucks for everyone because this shit is important but what can you do. I could get into how the apathy among the populace is part of a master scheme but I'll leave that for another day.

They are always both hilarious and truthful.

I will honestly be happy when this election is over and I can get a life again instead of worrying about when a poll comes out during the day. I think we need a name for this disease...Pollitis.
