(615 posts)but I don't think it's who you think. Do you think maybe she plans on deciding that the TPP really is the "gold standard" again, later on?
Other emails show Clinton seeming to personally lobby her former Democratic colleagues in the Senate to support free trade agreements (FTAs) with Colombia, Panama and South Korea. She had previously told voters she would work to block the Colombian and South Korean pacts.
An email Oct. 8, 2011, to Clinton from her aide Huma Abedin gave notes about the state of play in Congress on the proposed trade pacts. The notes provided Clinton some background before you make the calls to legislators.
Two days later in an email titled FTA calls, Clinton wrote to aides indicating she had spoken to Sens. Jack Reed of Rhode Island and Jim Webb of Virginia, both Democrats. She told the aides she had talked with Webb who is strong in favor of all 3 trade agreements, and then asked, So why did I call him? indicating she was otherwise phoning to try to convince wavering lawmakers to support the deals.
Only three years earlier, Clinton wooed organized labor during her presidential campaign with promises to oppose those same deals. She called the South Korea agreement inherently unfair. She also said, I will do everything I can to urge the Congress to reject the Colombia Free Trade Agreement. Clinton has lately courted organized labors support for her current presidential bid by pledging to oppose the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement, a deal she repeatedly touted while secretary of state.

(39,961 posts)support a candidate whose view points sway with the wind, it's pretty shocking to see folks that have the benefit of actually believing what what their candidate says, backed up with a large portfolio of examples of doing exactly what he said he was going to do.
That has to frustrate the heck out of Hillary voters - Bernie stepped right up, and challenged her with her Achilles heel - authenticity.

(39,961 posts)are "turncoat" Democrats that will vote for one of the Republican idiots if Bernie doesn't get the nomination is ridiculous.
It is getting to the point where I am sure this is some sort of campaign to embed it in our psyches that "MUST VOTE HILLARY". "HILLARY ONLY HOPE."
"HILLARY ... BRAINS. LOTS BRAINS."

(39,961 posts)He aims for the positive. Bernie Sanders has his finger on that pulse, I believe. He's extremely modest in many ways, but when he chooses to discuss a relevant point?
He is like cold on snow. He will not let up.
That is why I admire him.

(39,961 posts)That is the only way I can sum it up.
Hubris is the biggest obstacle for the people to be treated fairly with regard to tax law, health care, and prosecution of war criminals. The elite have such an inflated sense of self-worth, that they truly do not think 99% have any value to society, the conversation or the regulation.
That attitude is what I believe will destroy our country if we don't get politicians that espouse such ideas the hell out of office.
They have no business pretending to work for the people when they are ostensibly working purely for themselves.
Didn't mean to go on a rant, but this is a situation that pisses me off.

(39,961 posts)This oath-taking ceremony where I have to declare that I will vote for any Democrat under the sun than for the clown car occupants gets tiring.
Do you think any damn Democrat under the sun will vote for those nutjobs in the Republican party?
Seriously, is that a real fear?
I won't lift a finger for Clinton. She can hire a paid canvasser. I'll work for a down ballot candidate. But Clinton gets nothing.
I know it's not the answer you want, and that it'll reinforce a negative stereotype that generally isn't true. But it's also the crux of the electability argument. I, like many other leftists, just don't like Clinton's policies. I like her personally. She's was great as SOS at tweaking foreigners on feminist points. I loved that.
But I have limited time & energy. And I don't spend it on people who will harm my interests. Even if it's less than the other guy. Worse, many rightist independents and Republicans hate Clinton with the passion of a thousand teahadis. You want a recipe for high base involvement on the R side and low base involvement on the D side, and that's a potential disaster.

(39,961 posts)Even *IF* she wins the GE, which I think she can't, it will be 24/7 scandal mongering, daily examples of ethics violations, and dysfunctional government.
She is a great person to be in your corner behind the scenes to do the dirty work, but up front and center where the microscope is, she is disastrous.

I see them trying to dismiss Nevada and try and pump SC.
What happens if they tie or lose both?

Lord, I saw someone on twitter say "I can't stand the thought of 4 years of Hillary Clinton pretending to be a strong black woman."

Aerows
(39,961 posts)That's a huge row to hoe. It's tough with died-in-the-wool Democrats, tough with Republicans which they won't vote for anyone that isn't in favor of all manner of heinous things, but worse with Independent voters.
They want an honest candidate. She and Trump are closely tied of who is less dishonest.
Independent voters want honesty. I don't think that should be a particularly tall order for someone running for President - be honest.

That scares the shit out of folks in the Washington bubble. The vast majority of Americans will say that they are pissed at how our governance, our legislation, and the handling of our nation has fallen into the gutter.
The only people that think things are just fine are the people in DC. They get glad-handed by lobbyists day and night, so OF COURSE everything is fine.
Except that it isn't, and that needs to change.

This is a truely grass roots revolution as compared to the Koch's astroturf billionare bought and paid for Tea Party, corrupt, bullshit, fake, uprising. Jerks with firearms, spitting on POC, wearing tea bags on their hats. Still wondering how much each one was paid to board the busses? Where are those assholes now? Evaporated into the ether with Pailins tour bus. So phoney.
Rant off. Sorry, I lost my head.
