2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWho are Hillary's supporters?
Elsewhere in this forum there is talk about the Clinton campaign's effort to encourage more social media participation among its supporters. I responded that one reason is because of the age difference. But I want to go further. There's a lot of Bernie noise on this web site, but that doesn't mean that Bernie supporters are the only ones out there. Most people I know are Hillary supporters. Others are on the fence. Some are Sanders supporters, but not because they think Hillary is a liar. I don't personally know a single person who thinks that.
Don't respond "look at the polls." I'm not saying that Democrats aren't more and more evenly divided. Iowa was a split. There was NH, but there will be the south. I'm saying that the tone of this website is misleading. And I encourage the Hillary supporters who "stay out of GDP" to remember that and take heart.

Pardon me if I take that statement with a grain of salt.

WaPo/ABC poll: Hillarys relative trustworthiness down to 36% among Democrats
The honest/trustworthy indicator may be an indirect indicator of a lowered ability to inspire turnout, though:

(13,783 posts)Note that the question is "who is MORE honest and trustworthy" when comparing two people. I think most Clinton supporters would agree that she is way more complex than Sanders. Sanders is single minded. He can afford to speak off the top of his head because he doesn't deal in nuance or complexity. That's an attractive quality in many situations, and I suppose if I were forced to choose an answer to this question, I'd choose Sanders. But for that very reason I fervently hope that Hillary is the nominee for president. The world at that level is extremely complex. That poll definitely does NOT tell us that 48% of the Democratic population think Hillary is a liar... anymore than it tells us that 36% of the Democratic population think Sanders is a liar.

POLL: Hillary Clinton dishonest, untrustworthy
Nearly 6 in 10 think Hillary Clinton is dishonest and untrustworthy, a new poll finds.
In just two months, the number of people who say Hillary cant be trusted has risen 8 points to 57 percent, according to a new CNN/ORC poll on the 2016 race. Exactly half agreed that she does not inspire confidence, also up 8 points.
It seems pretty simple to me.

(22,308 posts)The MSM doesn't like to display Hillary's weakness.
Please Take this into account (although favorability is not exactly trustworthiness, it is similar).
Most of the people I know, personally, aren't Hillary supporters. Pondering further, none of them are Hillary supporters. The vast vast vast majority are Bernie supporters, with a few smatterings of one republican candidate or another. But ... Hillary supporter? Not a single one. The general consensus is not necessarily that there's something wrong with Hillary, but Bernie is just so right.

(13,783 posts)People tend to live in social milieus where there's a lot of agreement. You're just saying that your milieu is more like DU than not. I'm saying that DU doesn't define the greater Democratic world.
But I am glad to meet (on this website) someone who likes Bernie without calling Hillary a liar, etc. The early debates were something to be proud of. Actually, the later debates aren't bad, especially compared to the Republicans. Too bad this website can't behave more like Bernie and Hillary.
Blue_In_AK
(46,436 posts)and I have exactly two Hillary supporters on my Facebook feed, at least among my friends who post political stuff.
But as someone posted here yesterday, Alaska polls 14% more favorably for Bernie than Hillary, so it's not surprising that most of my friends support him.

(12,530 posts)It's exceedingly difficult to get out of a hole like that, and it's completely impossible to dismiss it and make it go away.

(13,783 posts)Unfortunately, you're right. When people make judgements without thinking (see my reply #16) it's really hard to get them to pay attention to a rational response.

(2,427 posts)Actually, Hill2016 said the same thing up thread and that may be the first time I've ever agreed with that poster. I'd also add that there are still large swaths of people that don't give a toss about politics and think Hillary is who they should vote for because that is what they hear.

(7,661 posts)and comfortable with the status quo......Most Bernie supporters are those who are struggling and have been left behind......by the crowds totals there seems to be more of the latter.

(9,823 posts)I want the painful change we've got to embrace. I want to pay taxes for a better and more connected US community. I want to join in a movement that challenges those who have much to realign their priorities, and those who have little to participate in the transformation of our country and our world.
Most of my friends and acquaintences feel this way, and support Bernie Sanders. Most of those I know who are fearful of losing what they've got support a Republican. Almost no one I know supports Hillary Clinton.
