(6,282 posts)She is quite authoritarian, so it makes sense, I guess, if that's what you're into.

(58,785 posts)The GOP is fielding several with authoritarian bents. I don't mind you finding out in foreign travels what authoritarian means, hopefully not disastrously, but not here. Never here.

(6,282 posts)On the spectrum of things though, Clinton is more authoritarian than not: see NSA, deportation of latino kids running for their lives, marijuana, foreign policy.
So your point is well taken, but there is a spectrum of things and Hillary leans one direction.

(58,785 posts)authoritarianism. By that standard every kindergarten teacher would be authoritarian. -- oh, waIt. They are.
Note the difference. Government does not get to order citizens around against their will because it has the authority and we have a duty to obey.. We gave ourselves something called the Bill of Rights.

(6,282 posts)Foreign Policy: advocating for the overthrow of democratically-elected governments in Latin America because they do not align with our interests.
Marijuana: Is not for legalization despite multiple states choosing to legalize the substance and having no issue. She knows better than the states and their voters?
Marriage: A man is a sacred bond between a man and a woman -- she is defining for others what marriage means.
Patriot Act / NSA: We the government have a right to read your communications / know your network of contacts lest you be a criminal or terrorist.
Immigration: Have to deport young kids running for their lives back to their country of origin "to teach their parents a lesson". -- Okay this is a bit weak on authoritarian / libertarian, but it is just heartless.

(58,785 posts)Hillary's virtue and to some degree her weakness is that her positions shift to reflect the will of the people she represents. BTW, when her husband was President, she was considered by many observers at that time to be well to his left; but when it came down to it she stood in front of the cameras and supported his decisions. Of course.

(6,282 posts)Yes, I grant that she was probably to the left of Bill during the '90s. At this point I don't know where Bill is, but it's a fair bet that she has drifted rightwards since the '90s.

I suspect this is was get the vote out by the local union workers there.

(17,064 posts)And when Hillary was running short of funds, the union leaders ordered the members to go out and canvass for her. It would not surprise me the least if union leaders threatened members to caucus for Hillary. No secret ballots.

Electric Monk might have a point.
Never mind. Just learned upthread NV voters can caucus where they work.

(1,249 posts)I've never lived in a caucus state, and this is the first primary cycle I've paid attention to caucuses. They are pretty mysterious, for an outsider.
