(2,586 posts)Kinda hard to discuss the issues when they keep making us look like Trump supporters. I wonder if this is their way of asking for our vote should they win the primary.

(5,066 posts)for someone who aid in past the clintons are racist you sure act like a clinton supporter.
Liberal_Stalwart71
(20,450 posts)see.
And many here on DU, not just Clinton supporters, did little to call out her racism in 2008---even when many of us POC were screaming at the top of our lungs. Very few cared and even forgotten about HRC's antics, even leading to a "hide" when I would post evidence of her campaign's racist dog whistles. No. You chose to look the other way and turn a blind eye to the racism back then.
President Obama has faced unprecedented levels of disrespect and racism. Many here, again, turned a blind eye.
Now that their candidate is facing the same---only NOW is their care and concern.
DU is going to learn that the Democratic Party cannot continue to take POC for granted, insult, and belittle them.
I don't think the woman lied; I think it was an honest mistake.
No scandal here. Just another made up one from Sanders fanatics who cannot accept that not everyone worships their candidate.
Y'all have turned me off for good.

(5,066 posts)clintons can say anything and still get black vote.that's a fact
yep turn every bernie supporter into racist just like clinton campagin has turned us all into racists and sexists and bill clinton turned us into tea party.
i hope you like to hear the words president trump because you will be hearing that a lot in future.
Liberal_Stalwart71
(20,450 posts)throats. If you know anything about me--which is obvious that you don't--you would know that for many years now, I've railed against the Clintons. I can't stand them at all. But the Sanders fanatics are behaving like HRC supporters behaved in 2008. I'm sorry, but that's the truth. If you don't fit that characterization, then my statement doesn't apply to you.
Look, I'm sorry your candidate lost. I'm no fan of HRC. I have no dog in this fight.
But there's no need to continue to be rude.
You win some. You lose some.
If Bernie is the nominee by the time we get to my April 26th primary, I have promised to vote for him.
If HRC is the nominee by then, I won't vote for either candidate---leaving the presidential selection blank and voting for down ticket Democrats only.
I've stated this repeatedly and I mean it.
And you're right: Some analysis have Sanders winning Hispanics, others have HRC winning Hispanics:
NYTimes: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/21/us/politics/nevada-caucus.html?_r=0
Politico: http://www.politico.com/blogs/2016-dem-primary-live-updates-and-results/2016/02/hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders-hispanic-voters-fight-219578
Doesn't appear that we'll ever know because it's difficult to get an accurate account of the Latino turnout and participation from the caucuses. She should have won the Latino vote outright and by a huge margin. On the other hand, she did well enough to best Sanders. Maybe he improves in SC. We don't yet know.
Robbins
(5,066 posts)the dem establishment has fixed the caucus system.what happened in iowa and nevada will happen in every state with caucus.
doesn't matter if bernie wins latinos.they didn't help in nevada against establishment.
msm already spining it for her and soon they will spin she won 3 out of 4 first states.soon MSM will start asking when bernie ends
his campagin.
after voting in missouri primary on march 16 i will be staying home in november.

To make matters worse for me here in Maryland, I have to deal with Kathleen Matthews (Chris Matthews' wife) who I can't stand. She's running in my congressional district. The other two candidates would be far better than her. Turns out, HRC is funneling money to her campaign. That's why Tweety seems to be so pro-Hillary on MSNBC. Even Rachel Maddow is going down that road at times.
It's sickening.
Robbins
(5,066 posts)i am for missouri.look back at ferguson in 2014 to understand how useless dems are.they don't care at all a teenage black boy got
executed by racist white cop.fact they later found out he stole 50 dollars of cigars, and was left to rot on ground for three hours.dems more intrested in protecting county prosecutor who was protage of claire mccaskill, who acted as defense lawyer for cop.
I since redistricting am stuck in solid gop district.and dems are going to run a former republican as governor.i've had it with
voting for prosecotors for office.don't worry in 2 years McCaskill will get a taste of it when unlike 2012 i do nothing to help her and stay home.
all corporate media is in tank for clinton and gop.tweety and rachel will be cheerleaders for clinton in ge.

Ken Burch
(50,254 posts)She knows the Sanders supporters weren't against Spanish translation, and she know no one on the Left would ever chant "English Only".
If HRC does get sworn in, she'll forget she ever even knew John Lewis, Dolores Huerta and James Clyburn.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)They cheered and clapped the "English only" decision.
She was rightly offended, even if in the moment she got it wrong and tweeted the wrong thing. Had she tweeted "cheered" as opposed to "chanted" we wouldn't even be having this conversation. We'd be talking about "neutral translators" or some other such crap.
Ken Burch
(50,254 posts)The mod caused all of this by not finding a neutral translator before the caucus began.
In fact, I'm beginning to wonder if this wasn't planned in advanced by the party.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)...of a civil rights icon in a half bilingual room.
Ken Burch
(50,254 posts)when she was a supporter of one of the candidates. It would have been equally wrong to have a Sanders supporter translating. You know perfectly well the Sanders campaign would never try to prevent Spanish translation from happening.
It was the party's fault for not finding a politically neutral Spanish translator.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)Ken Burch
(50,254 posts)Ms. Huerta would have biased everything she translated in favor of HRC.
It was up to the caucus organizers to find a Spanish interpreter not affiliated with either campaign IN ADVANCE.
passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)I've seen you say it twice now without offering up any proof.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)People ask for a spanish translator.
Huerta is brought to the stage.
Sanders supporters yell out neutral.
Moderator says "half of you speak Spanish!"
Sanders supporters yell "no, absolutely not!"
Moderator says "We're moving forward in English only."
Nasty Sanders supporters cheer it.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)It's pretty obvious to me they are cheering because they were able to stop a non-neutral translator. Not that they had any problem with the translation itself...just that they were happy that the moderator decided no translation rather than to possibly select a partisan translator. I might agree with you, if I hadn't seen a video with them yelling neutral. Meaning they wanted a neutral translator, not a partisan one.
You can put your own twist on it...that is your prerogative. But that's not what I see happening.
joshcryer
(62,276 posts)I will transcribe this, because I completely disagree with your observation. The moderator makes the argument that anyone can be neutral because half of the room is bilingual, at which point apparent non-spanish people disagree.
passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)It doesn't change the fact that they were calling for a neutral translator. I did not see that in your clip, but I probably didn't play it long enough. I'll watch it again tomorrow. I'm really trying to get to bed.

(24,010 posts)....the shit lies go all over the world; call it a "tempest in a tea pot," say, "get over it"; shit lies just keep going all over the world. And time it with endorsements by civil rights icons who are now part of the establishment--even members of an 8%-approval rating Congress--to make it seem like the civil rights icons are shitting on Sanders and he is no friend of black Americans.
Shit on Sanders' supporters with another lie, that they chanted "English only" at a Latina civil rights icon, recipient of $100,000 from the Clinton Foundation; she tweets a shit lie so that it goes all over the world; has to take it back because video proves it wasn't true; meanwhile many Latinos and others, because of who she is, BELIEVE that it happened; and, like the other lie, this one is still out there.
It's like using a group of soldiers to spit on John Kerry's military service in Vietnam (where he earned medals for saving people), when your candidate (Bush Jr) was serving in a 'champagne' National Guard unit at home and even went AWOL from that.
It's twisted and crazy-making. If you fight it, it grows. If you ignore it, it gets even bigger.
You identify your opponent's strength or potential strength--in this case, Sander's New Deal-like appeal to oppressed minorities who have suffered more than anyone from your candidate's policies of mass incarceration, welfare "reform," "free trade for the rich," massive job losses in the U.S., and utterly filthy massive looting by the uber-rich--and try to cover up your candidate's own weakness with the massively oppressed minorities, by having minority icons IMPLY that he is a (this really makes me laugh) a racist! Jewish Bernie Sanders from Brooklyn who started his political life in the streets championing desegregation, and who has never stopped supporting civil rights including the same economic rights that were championed by Martin Luther King, and the right to justice and the right to peace, throughout his entire life! A racist?! Sanders?!
What does this stink of? It stinks of Karl Rove!
That is the tactic being used by the Clinton campaign, and, I'm sorry, but it is NOT "a tempest in a tea pot." It is pervasively poisonous, destructive and disgusting.
And what bothers me most about this is that it is creating bitter divisions between natural allies within the Democratic Party and within our country who, if we worked together, could restore this country to true democracy and even save Planet Earth. That, too, smells of Rove. Lies. Divisiveness. Personalities. Anger. Hate. Visceral emotions instead of rational thought. The uber-rich, the transglobal oppressors, the banksters, the corrupt military contractors, the Corporate Powers PROSPER in this atmosphere. That is the purpose of this tactic.
What we are up against could not be better illustrated by these tactics. They are mean and low, and so are our Corporate Rulers.
It is wonderful that Bernie Sanders is doing well despite this and other dirty tactics, and despite the hundreds of millions of dollars being used against him--money that has been sucked out of our pockets, into the banksters' coffers, thence to the Clinton campaign. Sanders' persistence, and the persistence of his supporters, is in fact amazing, and a phenomenon.
We need to break down these barriers that the Clinton campaign is trying to build to divide our looted population. But we can't do it by letting these lies stand. The truth needs to become more persistent than the lies.

(45,251 posts)Fans = dollars and career. Most celebrities try to stay neutral entirely, so that they don't alienate any fans. Susan paid for an anti-Iraq war ad with her own money and now she is fighting for an underdog candidate.
