Hillary Clinton Got $280,000 for One Speech to Bruce Rauner’s Former Firm

Hillary Clinton Got $280,000 for One Speech to Bruce Rauner’s Former Firm

By Carol Felsenthal - PUBLISHED FEB. 10, 2016, AT 3:14 P.M.

On June 28, 2014, Hillary Clinton, gone more than a year from her job as Obama’s secretary of state and obviously preparing to move back to the White House, traveled to her hometown of Chicago to deliver a speech to GTCR. That’s GTCR, the private equity firm that Bruce Rauner once headed—the “R” stands for Rauner—and that earned him the millions he would use in his successful run for governor.

For that one speech, Hillary was paid $280,000—almost six times the median income for American households.

This wasn’t her only big-money appearance in Chicago. According to her “Executive Branch Personnel Public Financial Disclosure Report,” covering January 2014 through May 2015, she also spoke to the United Fresh Produce Association ($225,000) and the Advanced Medical Technology Association ($265,000).

Rauner had left GTCR in 2012. I was curious whether he had attended the speech, but email to Rauner’s press secretary was not answered, nor were calls and email seeking further details from GTCR and from Don Walker, president of Hillary’s lecture agency.

If only we knew what she said to those GTCR executives and their clients and investors. For example, did she mention the ugly gubernatorial race that at that moment was pitting Rauner against incumbent Democrat Pat Quinn, for whom Hillary would later campaign in Chicago?...

One of the companies under the GTCR corporate umbrella has been convicted for defrauding Medicaid & The Department of Veterans Affairs:

Maxim Healthcare Pays $150 Million in Fraud Case

By DUFF WILSON SEPTEMBER 12, 2011 3:05 PM

Maxim Healthcare Services, a privately held company with 360 offices nationwide offering home health care services, has agreed to pay about $150 million to settle civil and criminal charges over claims of false billings to Medicaid and the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Justice announced Monday.

In addition, nine current and former Maxim employees, including three senior managers, have pleaded guilty since 2009 to felony charges, the government said.

Federal prosecutors have been highlighting their efforts to root out health care fraud in recent years. The government has added scores of health care investigators and prosecutors since 2009.

Fraudulent billings and false statements to health officials became “a common practice at Maxim from 2003 through 2009,” according to a statement from the United States attorney’s office in Newark, N.J.

The acts included falsification of time sheets, training records and caregiver qualifications, the government said in a criminal complaint. Most of the nine people await sentencing in the United States District Court in Trenton. Two have been sentenced to probation....

Rauner’s GTCR linked to nursing home deaths and abuse

By DOUG IBENDAHL • January 22, 2014

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner pledges to run Illinois government “like a business.” In light of some disturbing facts which have come to light through multiple lawsuits involving Rauner’s former private equity firm, voters had better do their homework into what exactly the catchphrase “like a business” means to Mr. Rauner.

The nursing home industry came under serious stress in the wake of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997. The law significantly changed Medicare’s reimbursement system. Where before Medicare had reimbursed nursing homes for their costs plus a profit, now there were strict limitations on reimbursements and new regulations on how long patients could stay in nursing homes for certain conditions.

In 2000 The Wall Street Journal said: “The vultures are circling the carnage in the nursing-home industry. With some of the largest nursing-home operators under bankruptcy protection and others heading in that direction, a number of deep-pocketed investors are preparing to swoop in on the choice morsels.”

Bruce Rauner’s Chicago-based investment firm GTCR, LLC (formerly known as GTCR Golder Rauner) decided to get in on the action and one vehicle it used was Trans Healthcare Inc. (“THI”). THI’s launch to acquire nursing homes appealed to GTCR “because a new prospective payment system for Medicare was just being implemented,” said Ned Jannotta Jr., then a GTCR principal....

Hillary is smart enough to know who GTCR is and what their companies have done in regards to violations of the law.

The main company GTCR was recently involved with a nursing home scandal:

From another article on the verdict: “The case went beyond the nursing home’s extreme negligence that resulted in Townsend’s death and revealed its investors had conspired to run the nursing home chain into insolvency without any regard to residents’ care. Evidence showed the investors — that included . . . multi-billion dollar Chicago private equity fund GTCR Golder Rauner, LLC — set out to build their empire through a series of mergers and acquisitions with the ultimate goal of taking the company public, cashing out and making a lot of money. Not one person on the Board of Directors was a health care official which resulted [in] poor care for residents at some of their locations.”

Clinton doesn't support single payer because she supports strengthening the successful Obamacare program instead, building on accomplishments we worked hard for. Such as 16 million more people covered by health insurance, pre-existing conditions not a bar to coverage, refunds to customers if the company doesn't spend enough on actual health care, etc.

happen.

The ACA is better than when insurance companies were denying coverage and letting people die but it still leaves 30 million uninsured and millions more with deductibles that would be financially devastating.

If the over whelming majority of other industrialized nations can provide universal healthcare why can't America do so also?

a paid speech to Rauner's company will lose her the Illinois primary. Most people in Illinois despise Rauner and have buyers remorse from voting for him. If this fact gets out to Illinois voters it will kill Hillary's chances in Illinois. The voters won't take a chance at having buyers remorse for her too.

It's looking like she plays both sides of the fence here. What was that saying by Dubya? Fool me once and you won't fool me again - or something like that. Illinois voters won't be fooled again.

In my opinion - this revelation just killed all my respect for Hillary. If she won the Dem nomination I was prepared to hold my nose for her. Now I'm not sure what I'd do. I do know I'm going to double down and make another donation to Bernie and work all the harder to make him our nominee.

Go Bernie!!!

...It's that Bernie Sanders ISN'T.

And as a 70 year old woman, a loyal Democrat all my life, and an active Democrat since I was 16 (JFK campaign, 1960) and a feminist longer than most women, I resent you saying that Sanders' supporters oppose Clinton's corruption because she is a woman.

I would love to see a woman president before I die. You better believe it, honey. I can remember, at 16, thinking that I could be Jackie but NOT Jack when I grew up, as far as role models went. I could NOT become president; only a president's wife. That's how bad things were. We pioneers CHANGED the expectations of young women! And you cannot know how much we want those expectations to result in a woman becoming president.

But not this one! She is going to drag the cause of feminism through the mud, and get it equated with greed, corruption and lies. Not to mention WAR! My God, she's got Henry Kissinger as an adviser (and close friend!). Do you have any idea what those of us who are in our 70s went through with that murderous bastard? Do you have any idea what his fascist allies in South America DID to leftist women in those countries, with his knowledge and approval? Do you have any idea how many women and children he incinerated in Southeast Asia? Any notion of what it meant to women here to lose their husbands, brothers, sons, in that terrible, senseless, military profiteer war?

Further, Clinton and her husband are responsible for crushing the hopes and lives of millions of women, by their advocacy of "free trade for rich" agreements that have sent U.S. manufacturing, and millions of jobs, overseas to the cheapest labor markets, by jailing millions of people here with their goddamned "war on drugs" and their for-profit prisons, destroying families and communities all over this country, and with welfare "reform" that also destroyed women's lives and their families and communities, and then--and then!--they removed the New Deal regulations that would have prevented the crash of 2008! Do you have any idea how many women's incomes and homes were destroyed by that crash?

And now she's getting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the entities who prospered in the crash--the ones who caused it. Our money. Our bailout money!

No, not this woman. No, no, no. Give me an honest person and a real Democrat, man or woman! It's nothing to do with gender. And when that glorious day comes when a woman finally becomes President of the United States, let it be a woman of integrity who seeks the common good.
