2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo Why Is the Daily Beast Pushing a False Narrative Regarding Bernie's Electability?
( I lifted this from the comment section at Dailykos from LoneStarMike under this diary: http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/2/22/1489088/-BNR-Bernie-Works-To-Strengthen-South-Carolina-Support-amp-Sanders-On-The-Sunday-Shows .)"The gist of the video is that there have been several articles in the Daily Beast about Bernies electability (saying that hes not electable.) The Daily Beast is owned by a company called IAC Interactive Corporation. Theyre a media company and when you check out their website Chelsea Clinton sits on their Board of Directors." - LoneStarMike

(30,058 posts)giving it. The possibility of Sanders agenda getting passed in Congress is very low, his agenda is very expensive and the funds to cover the cost is not going to happen, there needs to be a very heavy Democratic Congress in office.

(8,702 posts)What will make Clinton anymore agreeable that her chances are so much better that she deserves our vote?
You think a modest and centerist approach with a willingness to make serious compromises to pass legislation, will inspire coattails? How about a big Democratic turnout in 2018? Not this electorate.
That we won't constantly live with "Clinton this" and "Clinton that" for 4 straight years? Committee hearings and "investigations" until they are coming out our ears.
...and no, it will not be the same with Sanders and you know it.

(8,702 posts)Never the less, you have still have created a "a bird in hand is worth more than two in the bush" scenario.
Compromises and Democratic centerism has created the situation we are in, i.e. a massive teapublican majority in the House and a slight one in the Senate. I don't think 4 more years of it is going to finally tip the electorate in our favor and help us win mid-term elections.
So which is it? Bold agenda to inspire and motivate the electorate-bird in hand(real and possible right now)? Hold out for a Congress to come along to support that type of agenda-two in the bush(no evidence to support that since there isn't even a path to flip the House until 2020 or 2022 at the earliest)?

(8,702 posts)I was listening long before most people and he has never stated he can do anything. His agenda is about "we". No one person can achieve any of this, you get the government you are willing to work for...cults of personality don't achieve anything, people do. Bernie Sanders would be the first to tell you that.

It's about 99% vs. 1%.
Here at du it seems closer to 80% vs. 20%.

I always wondered why every article I ever read that emanated from that den of iniquity called the Daily Beast was so poorly done, so awful and biased. Now I know why.
Thank you for this enlightening post.
