Julian Castro in Sarasota this week to fire up Democrats

Julian Castro in Sarasota this week to fire up Democrats

One of Hillary Clinton's top allies on the presidential campaign circuit, Julian Castro, is coming to Sarasota to fire up Democrats.

Castro, the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the Sarasota Democrat's annual Kennedy-King fundraising dinner. U.S. Rep. Steny H. Hoyer, the second-highest ranking Democrat in the House, is also expected to be part of the event.

Castro, a former mayor of San Antonio, stumped for Clinton in Iowa and New Hampshire in Februrary just before those states voted in the presidential primary election. His appearance in Sarasota will come just a day before early voting starts in Florida, and just over two weeks before Florida's primary election day.

Castro, 41, has often been declared a rising star of the Democratic Party, having landed a keynote speaking spot during the Democratic National Convention in 2012.

I agree Trump would slap Clinton around pretty fiercely in a debate and in his usual media hijinx. Castro would be a great counterbalance to that. He's a serious progressive and a strong campaigner.

Hell, I hope Bernie picks him as his VP too!

As I see it he basically has to live in Florida in the Fall to even have a shot in the state. Also how much campaigning can a sitting Secretary do?

The March 15 Democratic primary is an important one, with 246 delegates at stake. I also think he'd make an excellent VP.
