As Bernie Gains On Clinton, New Poll Suggests Voters Open To Socialism

Democrats Ready For Socialism? With Bernie Sanders Gaining On Clinton, New Poll Suggests Voters Open To It
BY CLARK MINDOCK @CLARKMINDOCK ON 02/22/16

A new poll may answer the question that has been on the minds of many pundits since Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders announced his run for the president: Can a self-described socialist really rally enough support to win a United States election?

...Roughly six in 10 Democratic voters say they have favorable views toward socialism, according to the poll, which was conducted by a right-leaning issue advocacy group. The sentiment was shared among Democratic voters regardless of age, gender and race, Politico reports.

American Action Network reportedly took precautions to ensure that the poll wasn’t only reflective of the 2016 Democratic primary race, however. Neither Sanders nor former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were mentioned by name when the surveys were conducted. Instead, the group, which is funded by a super PAC that supports House Republicans, asked questions based upon a television interview with Democratic Party chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz in which she was pressed to define the difference between a Democrat and a socialist.

(snip)

Clinton has long held a healthy lead over Sanders in national polls but Sanders has recently been catching up fast. She leads him by just 5.6 percent of the average, 47.6 percent to 52 percent. (And many polls show they are "virtually tied -- NB).

People actually like social democracy, even if they don't realize that's what it's called.

ended by a few more state losses

after a few more ugly incidents and crude appeals to humanity's baser side, after more disgusting revelations, after the FBI indictment, after her sense of inevitability is broken, people are gonna start asking why Sanders is supposedly "behind" in all the states when the trendlines have already crossed nationwide

The problem is, it's overwhelmingly the other way for independents, non party id folks and of course even worse for Republicans.

he has a shot at all the blue states...he can win Mass, CT, WI, MN, NY, Cal etc. etc. the nominee should and can't be decided by states that will never vote for the Democrat...he's still in it.

anti-trade and generally anti-Democratic sentiments including blistering criticism of Barack and (usually by innuendo) Hillary. Add to that the fact that for all intents and purposes there's nothing particularlarly s/Socialist about him. He's basically an old-school New England Republican which today sorts out to Independent (his actual status) and L/libertarian. In 24 years I've never heard him actually talk about European or US socialism in any informed way..
